100% spot on.
Only one of the major players doesn't exclude it so that's what I used.

You may end up needing a dehumidifier in home, lots and lots of things can go wrong w spray foam

I was under the impression it comes in different depths.
1", 3", 5"?? Or does it go by lbs per ft?

Also correct. You have to size the AC correctly and not build the thing so tight it can't breathe.

Seriously
You need to get some legitimate bids and sit down with people/contractors that are in the business.
When I was getting bids 3 years ago foam was running about 3 times the cost of conventional insulation.

And what not breathe?

Elk used to warranty them, but they were bought out...

I think that's the whole idea, they are looking for an ice chest setting. The heating units and water heaters have fresh air intake vents installed. The bath vents have to be vented outside for mold reasons. If vented into a sealed attic, the moisture creates mold.
Makes being in an attic a pleasure also.

I want I do foam in our new house but so many things about it make me nervous. Right size AC, moisture behind the foam, etc
I'll be contracting out my own house so I don't know who to consult to make sure all is done right. Would this be the AC guy? Spray foam guy?

Can't remember the name of it but there was an online forum specifically for both spray foam installers and customers.
Lots of helpful information on there if you can find it.

I used Paul LaGrange to do a workup. He did a great job, but I would not use the hybrid water heaters. The technolgy is still too new on those.

I still managed to do an energy efficient home without the foam though. There are plenty of other things you can do to make your home energy efficient. I have over 2300 living area and my energy bill runs around $125-$150 through the summer.
This. I have 2750 living, full electric with 9' ceiling to 17'. Avg bill in summer is around $140. I do get a couple high ones in the winter, up to $180. I have sprayed in rock wool in the walls and ceiling.

Just do radiant barrier in attic and spare yourself spray foam.
Posted on 1/19/14 at 7:45 pm to Chad504boy
Are there any concerns about moisture getting to the wood? I'd love to do my attic and my garage attics but that's one thing I have concerns about.

I've heard that moisture can get behind it and you wouldn't know and could cause issues. I think the stress of that happening is not worth the savings. I actually forgot about the research I did on radiant barrier until chad brought it up. I'll most likely go that route.
