Do some of your own research. Not my fault you make baseless claims without a shred of knowledge.
ETA: And don't forget to factor in the age of the two guys ahead of him. One is still on his rookie deal since it's his second year.

No. Next?

Ahhhh nice cop out
Get fricked dumbass. The top guy makes $500k base, but is still on his rookie deal, and the second guy is in his 7th year and makes $300k less than Morstead base. So Morstead is earning his money.

All contract numbers are from Rotoworld.com
Johnny Hekker:4/28/2012: Signed a three-year, $1.45 million contract. The deal included a $10,000 signing bonus. 2014: $570,000, 2015: Restricted Free Agent
Brandon Fields: 8/4/2012: Signed a five-year, $14.424 million contract. The deal contains $3.3 million guaranteed. 2014: $3,041,116, 2015: $3.358 million, 2016: $3.525 million, 2017: Free Agent
So apparently a good veteran punter (Hekker was an undrafted free agent find) seems to cost about 3 million.
Here's Morstead's contract numbers:
7/26/2012: Signed a seven-year, $23.16 million contract. The deal contains $6.925 million guaranteed -- a $3.5 million signing bonus and each of his first two base salaries. Morstead is eligible for annual $100,000 workout bonuses in years two through seven. 2014: $2.185 million, 2015: $2.35 million, 2016: $3 million (+ $400,000 roster bonus due in March), 2017: $3.15 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due in March), 2018: $3.55 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due in March), 2019: Free Agent
Also considering that he converted some of this 2.25 million salary this year into a signing bonus to help the Saints, I assume he'll do it again this year.
EDIT: Overthecap all shows that cutting Morstead would save the Saints a grand total of $135,000. Which is less than what a rookie free agent would cost in minimum salary.

This place has gotten as bad as the rant. Bunch of idiots making themselves feel better by bashing people.
I was going to agree with you until I saw you were the OP. Your post was horrible.
We could also trade Drew Brees and save money too.
You don't cut top talent to save money.

I love Morestead....I want him on our team forever.

Thank you for this post. It is the best answer to my original question.

Why didn't you thank me for the same info a-hole?

You didn't give me that info, sir. And do you really think your behavior warrants a thank you?
Posted on 1/13/14 at 10:41 am to marinebioman
didn't read the thread but I'm still pushing to eliminate or ignore "should we?" threads unless the poster makes a case. Don't just throw out Should we cut X? or Should we pick up X? Put a little effort and make the case one way or another. Then you have a basis to debate from- not just some open ended random rambling often with little basis.
This whole thread is eliminated if ya just examine his contract and the implications of cutting or keeping...
Cutting him will cost $3.1mil of cap
Keeping him will cost $135K more than that
Cutting him would qualify as a Saints of old boneheaded decision.
No story here, move on

so the salary of Morestead compared to other punters dictates weather or not he is worth it for his kickoff abilities? I think we need to know how well the other top punters kick the ball off the tee in order to do a fair comparison and actually answer your original stupid question

Did you really think your OP doesn't make you look like an idiot? Especially after all the facts in this thread?

Thanks blues...I admittedly don't understand the salary vs. cap hit stuff that you have such a grasp on.

You came here, you presented and unpresented idea. We are in the market for a new kicker, why not get one who can also kick off. Morestead is getting paid a lot of money to be a twittering douche bag punter and he royally fricked up at least 3 or 4 times in the waning moments of the season and post season. Hartley got the ax, this guy should get the ax as well. Don't let these guys get you down, they generally take about 6-8 months to come around to new ideas.
Chad, you are being ridiculous about Morstead.
He is one of the best punters in the league. Having a couple of bad games and an otherwise stellar career doesn't mean you cut him.
It is utterly ridiculous.

Actually you didn't give me all the info that he did...the parts about how much Morestead will make each season plus how he has restructured previously and might well do so again.
If you need a pat on the back, use your own hand.

All that has nothing to do with why we shouldn't cut him. He is, and has been, a weapon for us a very long time. He had two bad kicks in terrible weather conditions, and you're in here asking to cut him. Pump the brakes a bit.

I gave you pertinent numbers, as well as performance numbers. Not my fault you need things spelled out for you. Have we just proven that you're an idiot by your own standards?
