Is Jim Harbaugh a better coach than Payton?

3 years, 3 NFC championship games, his teams are always up to play?

Huge douche bag but excellent coach. Better than Payton? Certainly a case to be made. Payton has a title but Harbaugh has a QB that isn't a third as good as Brees.

He inherited a ton of talent

He's well on his way to building a hell of a résumé. I'd say he had a heck of a plate of talent when he stepped in the niner door

Sure he inherited talent but we're judging him on coaching ability. He's produced great results with that talent when lesser coaches couldn't do the same.

Interesting question. He wears his emotions on his sleave; however, I also think this will get his team more calls than average.
Payton is a fantastic coach, and one of the most brilliant offensive minds in the game. That brilliance comes at a cost however. He will outcoach himself, and run funky offensive plays when pounding the rock is working.

How about Stanford?
Anyways, Jim is a hell of a head coach. He's getting everything out of his players right now and that's exactly what a head coach should do. Some will never put him above Sean until he wins the big game but it's certainly debatable as to who is the better coach.

Until Jh wins a Super Bowl, answer is no

I think he is better than payton clearly. Who is a better coach, john harbaugh or payton?

im a 49ers fan literally cause of patrick willis and Harbaugh is the biggest douchebag. I respect Payton way more but I feel like Harbaugh may be the better coach

That said, despite my distaste for his cocky personality, Harbaugh is a great coach.

If Manning had signed with the 49ers…

However a much cheaper QB. We'll see how good JH can do when it's time for Kap to get a new contract. Same with Seattle and Wilson.

He's a great coach. I'm wondering what's going to happen with his team and his act when they aren't winning quite so much. Seems like he could burn out his welcome quick.

4 yrs 2 NFC championships and 1 championship > 3 yrs and 3 NCF championships IMO.
Like St Aug said. Once they start losing and the talent diminishes, I feel like he will implode with his antics. He is a great coach out of the gates for sure though.

Who could not win 6 games. He's one of the top 5 coaches in the league right now....

I've said that since he chose Denver, Manning was an idiot for not signing with San Fran. They probably wouldn't have lost a game the last two years.

On the Manning bit... Manning was only going to seriously consider the 49ers if the Texans and Broncos weren't interested. He simply did not want to play in the same conference as his brother.
On the coaching. What Harbaugh has done (3 NFC champs in first three years) is unprecedented in NFL history. Yes he inherited a great defense, but the offense was atrocious at best. I think he needs to win a ring to move into the elite category.

You know Harbaugh wouldn't have given him free reign of the O like Fox does. Manning thrives off having that.
