I have been following him since he was a Jr in HS. Loved his film and loved how he speaks and leads. Of course, when he won out the backup job, that was promising, and when he led the comeback with the 99-yarder against Arky, it was extremely promising for him and the Tigers.

Then, the Iowa bowl game, where he was on the one hand in his first-ever start, and on the other hand was playing a slow defense and had almost a month to prepare. His performance was then much more what one might expect. He looked pretty bad.

So, now we have many assuming that Cam can advance him the way he did with Mett, and that next year he can possibly advance enough for us to be in contention for the SEC West and beyond. It is certainly plausible, but....

So what should we realistically expect?

And is it a certainty that Rettig or Rivers or Harris will not beat him out in the spring/summer prior to the Wisky game?

Bottom line is that he is a total guess.

All we can do is hope for the best out of Cam's development of him.

It would be plausible for LSU to go 10-3 again next year on the way to the 2015 season, where we should be in position to make a serious run...

Or, do people (other than pure homerism) think that next year is a possibility for special things with him under center?

If so, please share your thoughts.

Cause as much as I like him and his potential, I am anything but confident about the situation...and I am so wanting to beat Bama and Aubbie next year,,,

What say you?

I seriously believe we have a plausible shot at any game next year, regardless of who starts under center. I think a lot falls on what kind of team shows up for each game. The same could be said for this past season.

My thoughts, exactly. I think he has some serious upside though

I look for a 9-4 type season, if we're being honest.

1.Our offense will be much much weaker than 2013 (be real for a second please).

2.Our defense should be pretty solid, not quite back to 2011-12 levels but much better than 2013.

3.Special Teams should be a bit weaker, no OBJ returning kicks.

So 11-2 would be a max accomplishment imo. (this is a stretch).

1.) Don't read too much into the Iowa game. They had a good defense and I don't think we saw play-calling like we'll use next year.

Personally, I think it may be better for his development for AJ to have faced some adversity prior to next year.

2.) Cam was clearly focused on developing Mett this year (and did a great job). AJ will certainly get better over the Spring/Summer and competition will push him even more so.

3.) The other QB's certainly have a shot, but they are all less experienced (in-game) than AJ. Harris will have to put some weight on before Miles puts him on the field IMO (but he probably has the most upside).

It depends on if Hill comes back imo. If he does all LSU needs is a QB who won't lose games. If the defense is improved which many think it will be (I'm worried about DT) then LSU could go 11-1 and make the playoffs.

Wide open QB race this spring, but don't read too much into Jennings' performance. LSU's plan was to run the ball and not put it on the shoulders of a freshman QB. I suspect some of those sacks were by design. They told him not to throw it up for grabs, and not to take off running. Just take the sack and live to fight another down. It looked bad in the stat line, but we won the game.

He faced the No. 5 pass defense team in the country in his first star in below average conditions.

Top notch insight here. No one knows what to expect from a QB who has played a grand total of 1.1 games.

Much like people overreacted after one series in the Ark. game, people are overreacting after one bowl game. I know it may be a novel concept, but I'm going to give the guy more than 1.1 games to determine whether or not he will be a good QB at LSU.

Oh yeah? After following him for 3 years, one game in college and you are clueless? And another thing, he didn't have a month to prepare, these kids get a Christmas break just like everyone else. Its more like 2 weeks.

He will be fine next year. He won the backup job very quickly, and Rivers didn't look too bad in the Spring game. Rettig looked like I would have and I had 8 beers in me.

Trust me, we don't want Harris starting for us next year. He was Cam's choice, and with the proper development, will be scary good. In the meantime, Jennings is very talented, smart, and motivated kid. That 99 yard drive wasn't luck. He showed pocket presence, scrambling ability and touch on that drive. Once he settles into a groove, we will like the results.

I actually don't think Jennings played that bad.

You could say he took too many sacks and didn't try to move away from the rush in the pocket, but it beats throwing forced INTs.

The one bad overthrown INT that was returned for a near pick 6 was on target, just high. I'll bet he wishes he could have that one back, since the receiver was wide-arse open.

It was his first game as a starter. Let's be a little patient....

Iowa was probably the 2nd best defense we faced all year.

Do you remember how bad Mett looked in his first couple of starts when he had three leashes on from the coaching staff.

Hannigrif and Risher discussed QB maturation a few times last year. Risher said it would take 5-6 games to master the control and speed of the game for a new starter. That proved to be pretty accurate with Mett and then Cameron was able to bring him to a higher level of play this year. I would not put to much weight on his one game in a road/bowl game which was a first time start.

regardless of whether someone agrees with your logic, this statement is clearly true (although not entirely enlightening)
some will be more optimistic than others
some will be "sky is falling"
some are delusional in their level optimism
...just like anything else...

I go by what history has shown me. I agree with Roger that I think the offense will look more like 2012 than 2013.
new QB with very little experience, no proven WRs, same faces on OL with Stud still coaching (not a positive)...this leads me to believe the play calling won't be that dissimilar from the bowl game or most of 2012
Does this mean we won't win 10 games?? no.

My prediction every year is 10 wins because Miles has now established that as the norm. I hope for more wins and would hate to finish below that.

With that said, Ole Miss has everybody coming back, and we get Auburn away. We still have Bama on our schedule and UF has been close every year except twice so I say 3 losses at the most, one loss at the least.

Jennings will be great for us next year. Dude has everything but the cannon arm. People shouldn't read anything into the Iowa game at all. We'll be 60/40 on offense but more uptempo which means more plays and we'll spread the defenses out more.

big fat no. Rettig and Rivers have got to feel, at this point in time, that their dream shot is there for the taking. we will find out a lot more about who has it...and who really wants it in the coming months. trouble is, Jennings has a limited body of work and the others are complete unknowns. only time will tell.

Here are the things that give me confidence:

1. LSU recruits elite quarterback talent. The guys on that roster listed at QB could have gone pretty well any place that they chose.

2. I've seen Cam Cameron's effect on a player. Granted, part of ZM's better play can be attributed to pure maturation/age, but come on fellas, he went from average (outside of the Alabama game two years ago) to an absolute team strength this past year. By mid season, there wasn't another quarterback in the league I'd have rather had calling signals for us, and that had alot to do w/Cam. Jennings will improve.

3. Our O line will be better (especially if Collins stays), and if Hill stays/Fournette signs, I honestly think I could QB this team to 7 wins. Granted, we'd run 100% of the time, I'd never throw a pass, and Hillnette wouldn't be able to walk on Sunday mornings, but we'd still win 7 games.

4. Jennings knows what he CAN do. We all do. We've seen it. The fact that he'll have to win the job is a good thing for a young QB. If he takes the opening snap against WiscAAAAAAnson, it'll be because he's a capable player.

I think if our defense can play up to their standards, we have a chance to go all the way BECAUSE our running game will be be stronger than 2009s, which may be enough to lead us.
