Tony's Seafood does not put ice in a bag to put food in.
Federal and state law prohibits the sale of HOT prepared food to be purchased using the EBT / La Purchase card. Only COLD food is allowed for purchase.

So,you didn't take this thread as me targeting the business BTW,If indeed you are correct, don't you think those TANF benefit holders already know they have the option to use those benefits same as cash? Why then the need to advertise in a big arse storefront sign?

My bad. I apologize that I missed that point you are making.

It's valid, though a little overblown, to say that the four biggest recipients if food stamp benefits in this country are all named Walton...who also happen to be 4 of the top 8 billionaires who had biggest wealth increases last year.

That sandwich shop owner just sees a chance to increase business by letting folks who may not otherwise know that.

The food stamp program in general has waaaaaaaaay too much fraud. One started reason FS are so easy to get does have some validity- that is is a "safety net" program for many people so the standards are lax for people who don't have traditional living situations.

On the other hand, they could easily curtail a lot of this fraud if they allowed for more information to be required in some circumstances. I'm of the belief that the reason the Feds don't do this is because in the end, FS are as big a corporate welfare program as they are about helping folks eat. The Ds and Rs go back and forth to pander to their bases on it, but in the end they're all beholding to corporate America.

We do have a big problem with an underclass in this is growing at a huge rate. 1 in 5 people are on FS in alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

The problem is about 30 percent of what the "right" says as is 30 percent of what the "left" says. Few, if any people advocate the key 40 percent in the middle and that's why this problem keeps getting worse

Btw, that rant wasn't directed back at you....just ranting in general.

Not all places can accept SNAP or EBT benefits; a retailer must apply and be approved for a USDA account making them eligible to accept SNAP & EBT benefits. The misconception some people have of SNAP & EBT is that they think it's all "food stamps" however EBT is an electronic benefit transfer program that lets low income people collecting, for instance, Supplemental Security Income(SSI) to be directly deposited on their Louisiana Purchase card.

The reason why seafood places can get away with it is because after it is boiled and placed in an "ice chest" for 30 minutes (i think), it is considered a "cold food." These "ice chests" are usually just big insulated tubs, that keep it hot, not cold. But this is why EBT is allowed on purchases of boiled seafood.
