Was rolling down Greenwell Springs over by Oak Villa yesterday and something caught my eye. I had to turn around to see if I saw what I thought I saw.

Yep.

I am pretty sure EBT does not allow the purchase of Hot or Prepared foods.

I thought they couldn't buy cooked food with those cards.

isnt the cash benefit like a debit card anyway?

i believe cash benefit and the actual "food stamps" portion of the benefits are different

They just put the food in a bag with ice and you can warm up at home. Isn't that what Tony's Seafood does?

They have the money, doesn't really matter what they buy with it. Hell, a hot meal is better than bags of chips and candy.

so,the establishment found a loophole in the system. I'm guessing they cash the card and in turn the owner of the card purchases whatever they please.

Business owners can accept them if they want.

plus, i'd feel better about them supporting a local business rather than a wal-marks.

I'm just saying that some folks get cash benefits, not just food benefits

If they get cash benefits, they can spend it on bills, rims, smokes, whatever

I may be wrong but I'm sure there is something in the fine print on that sign that we can't read

To just glaringly display that sign in front of that store just pisses me tha frick off.
Sure they might not be accepting "SNAP foodstamp benifits" but they are running their EBT cards through a card reader and giving cash to the customer right on the spot.
Seems shady as hell.
