I don't know what this has to do with the trading volume. Does moving btc from one of your wallets to another count as a trade within bitstamp? (yes I'm clueless)

No.

Volume spikes post-"crisis" have generally been followed by spikes in price. Sequent volume spikes are generally followed by collapses in price.

It can if all parties want it to be recorded on the blockchain. It is only for convenience that intra-exchange transfers are not recorded on the blockchain since confirmations would usually invoke transaction fees to the Bitcoin miners.

That's not what he was asking.

He was asking if wallet transfers were recorded as trades on Bitstamp.

Thanks poodle. Josh, just trying to figure what to make of $50mm transfer. Btc volume isn't high enough to not have enormous spikes with an order so large.

Why wouldn't they be if there was supposedly money exchanged? Reporting accurate prices to potential traders is the ideal for exchanges is it not? Wouldn't it be unethical for an exchange to not report all exchanges? That would give certain traders advantages over others due to non-public information. Do you think Bitstamp is engaged in unethical behavior?

I'm bumping this bitch in honor of the MB Bitcoin Fanboy and Honorary Horrible Poster, WikiTiger.

As of today, 8/27/14, Bitcoin sits at $515.77.

If you replaced equity, bonds, swaps etc for bitcoin in the above, you would have exactly what a dark pool does.

I'm not a bitcoin guy, but in the above example there is actually more transparency with the bitcoin transaction than in some dark pool equity transactions.

Bitcoin ended 2013 valued at approximately $815.00 on MtGox.

What do you think a bitcoin will be worth at the end of 12/31/2014?

My prediction: $5250.00
With just over 3 months to go in the year and with this morning's price of btc at $385, btc is down $430/btc (-53%) since 12/31/13 and is below your 12/31/14 year end prediction by only 93%.

Did you allow for a margin of error in your prediction of +/- 95%???

The exchange companies that are acting as the middle men in all these companies accepting btc and paying out dollars are at risk of failing if they accept the btc, pay the vendor in $$$ and hold the btc for any length of time at all.

There is no way these companies can absorb 10%+ almost daily declines in the prices of their btc that they are holding.

Would a crash down to the $10 range help legitimize bitcoin? Being that more companies may be more open to experimenting when their potential loss is FAR less than it is now

Just asking

Something strange is going on with Bitstamp. It is a UK based btc exchange and was the most recent favored exchange for joshnorris in a post on this board.

It has not had a trade in a couple of hours. The bid/ask prices are frozen far apart and the last trade was at $300.

It is exhibiting traits that it has shut down.

LINK

ETA: Bitstamp is back up and running this morning. Strange.
