I have no doubt we affect the environment but don't accept the doomsday scenarios many of climate change adherents are proposing.

Meh, I guess it depends on what you consider "destroying the environment". A bit subjective

No one is saying that the Earth doesn't go through climate shifts. However the warming that's taking place is far more accelerated than it has been before

If a slight warming of the climate is "destroying the environment" to you, then you are wrong no matter what criteria you've created in your mind.

It's actually a fact that small temperature changes can indeed wreak havoc on entire ecosystems

I think that would be important to know as the deadline approaches toward total global warming destruction.

So Chris Turney the "Climatologist" organizes a cruise retracing Douglas Mawson’s Antarctic exploration of 100yrs ago. Turney's objective, in no small part, is to assess the terrible effects of Global Warming on Antarctic sea ice. In route his ship gets stuck in ice. A Chinese icebreaker which tried to free his ship up, got stuck in ice itself. Now more rescue vessels are on the way.

I don't subscribe to Doomsday Weekly either and I think that anything can be oversaturated with media headlines to grab more attention nowadays--I hate even watching the weather channel sometimes

However, you cannot deny that there is a very sour attitude toward anything related to the subject of global warming in some places; Especially(or so i've noticed)here in the south, where there is already a staunch and quite honestly unsubstantiated dislike for democrats and/or science

Short term no. And yeah the doomsday predictions are usually just bull shite meant to get more viewers

However long term the effects are very real. Not doing anything about it now because it won't directly affect us right now is a terrible way to look at it

It will not destroy the environment. At worst, it will somewhat alter some environments.

That's a funny account

But it doesn't take away from, in any way, the fact that man-made climate change is real

What about what he said about ecosystems?

Skepticism, and it's healthy. If we didn't have some dissent, we would be going way overboard based on doomsday prophecies made a few years ago.

Nice pulling of the presumed intellectual superiority card. What's next? Blaming Bush?

You do realize that the slightest "alter", maybe something unnoticeable to you but impactful in nature, can destroy entire ecosystems--right?

You mean like when the Vikings in Greenland starved when it got too cold?

re: Has it been posted that 2013 was the lowest year in tornadoes (& forest fires)

Short term not they won't. However like I said in the post above, the long term affects really do have the chance to do a ton of damage to the environment

somewhat alter some environments.

Nice on taking the negative words out. Why does it matter if it won't destroy the environment? Shouldn't we always try to help out the environment? I know that sounds like some hippie bull shite but I really think humanity should have that goal. Besides, lessening the pollution around the world would have immediate health benefits for everyone. Just look at China. Tons of cancer from all of the carcinogens floating around in the smog. Imagine what some strong regulations could do for them as a whole.

Doomsday alert!!!!

We've destroyed entire ecosystems many times over and survived. It isn't "destroying the environment"

According to some of you alarmists, the polar bear was supposed to be damn near gone by now

I'm sorry that I struck a nerve. If it makes you feel better, I'm probably as "redneck" as they come

Run along now
