I never thought he was going anywhere but if you don't think the LARGE contract bump had 100% to do with Texas you are an idiot.

Furthermore, a sense of confidence existed among Alabama's top power players because of Saban's respect for Brown. The two coaches played Jenga against each other for an ESPN commercial, coached against each other in the 2010 BCS National Championship and hold each other in high regard.

Saban, a source said, would not be interested in participating in a "coup" to replace the veteran Longhorns coach.

This is the main reason I was never worried. It's obvious they were trying to force Mack Brown out at Austin. Brown and Saban are good friends. I don't think Saban would have appreciated his friend being the victim of a coup d'tat.

They took this from my post last night!!

...........................................

I honestly believe this was an internal power play at Texas. Mack's camp which included Powers and Dodds and a shitload of old money boosters and they were up against the "new money" camp that wanted Mack out.

Chip got his info from the "new money" camp. I think those guys fed bottom feeders like Chip, Orangebloods, etc.. the Mack resignation story and also the Saban offer story. When that started to fail and Mack dug in they upped the ante and had Kirk Bohls of the Austin American Statesman write the story this week that Mack Brown should go to turn the heat way up.

When the new money guys couldn't get Saban interested the wheels came off their wagon. Mack's camp dug in and they won. I think there was a hell of an internal battle among high level boosters. Lots of hard feelings and some really nasty shite went on.

The old guard at Texass won this battle. It really wasn't about Saban, it was about who controls the athletic department. It was coup in ever sense of the word.

Haha. They just upped his pay for losing to their most hated rival in the only game that mattered.

I'm sure LSU is going to give Les Miles even more than Saban for losing to our various "rivals."
