If you want a nicer room in St. Pete, highly recommend the Vinoy (where visiting MLB teams stay) or the Birchwood (new, smaller hotel on Beach Drive -- amazing location, rooftop bar).

Sweet. That's where I'm at...

Wouldn't hurt to be prepared ~ I've been in Clearwater for Christmas break back in the 70's and it was cold. Hopefully the weather will be awesome for the game.

I live in Old Northeast, neighborhood right behind the hotel. If the weather is warm the Vinoy pool is one of the best spots in St. Pete. The golf course ten minutes away isn't too bad either. You're in a great spot for drinking -- start with drinks at the hotel bar, move to the rooftop bar at Birchwood, one minute walk down Beach Drive to Tryst for good beer on tap, and finish the night hammered at Mandarin Hide. Bars are open till 3AM.

May want to consider flying in/out of Orlando...

OP said they do firweworks and stuff at the pier...probably request a room looking over the bay, then.

I would only do that, if there's nothing available going into TPA. The drive on 4 can suck big time. Like someone said, the airport is very close to the stadium and easy drive to either St Pete or Tampa. It is rated as a top 5 airport in the world. I know the game is driving up prices but the SW flight from New Orleans is usually reasonable and the flight is a little over an hour.

Vinoy is a really nice place. Stayed there a month ago for work. Twins were staying there at the time.

Bern's is good, don't get my wrong. The experience is worth the trip. Definitely get a tour of the kitchen and the on-site wine cellar. I went to eat at Mr. John's steakhouse a few months ago on St. Charles and I happen to be in Tampa the next week and went to Bern's. Mr. John's steak was better. But nothing beats the experience of Bern's.

LMAO Dude is this a troll? What's the matter they didn't have enough ketchup for your Well Done steak at Berns?
Bastards don't know how to cook a filet. Outback knows the meaning of extra well done.

Yep. The I-4 parking lot.

See to me, and maybe its bc I'm not a wine enthusiast, the wine tour is meh. It's impressive how many bottles they have, but really its just bottles and bottles of wine I'm not buying.

You are spot on. After dinner, the waiter will ask if you are interested in a tour of the wine cellar- take the free tour. It is the largest private wine cellar in the USA , and the last time I checked, it is among the 3 largest in the world. It is very interesting. I agree, go upstairs to the desert room after eating. Even if you are full just go up and have a drink-it's a great experience.

Quote: "Is the Doubletree Suites Hotel on Rocky Point Dr a good spot to stay?" Yes, it's a good location. There is a really elegant restaurant in the area called Armani's. It's on the top floor of the Grand Hyatt in the Rocky Point area- very nice.

quote:Berns is pricey but it is definitely worth the big bucks. The dessert room upstairs is a must, as would be the espresso or port. This is no Outback. Reservations needed. Try to get them in now. I live in Bradenton, about 45 miles south of Tampa. We've got some nice beaches here, at what's called Anna Maria Island. Good fishing and some decent lodging. A brand new major redevelopment of an old downtown hotel has just opened under the Hampton Inn banner. But this is not like most Hamptons you've seen along the road. Easy back and forth to Tampa; about a 45 minute drive along I-275 thru St. Pete.
Dinner - Bern's do it, then retire upstairs for some espresso and port.
Back in Tampa - you might want to check out Jackson's Restaurant in the Waterside area of So. Tampa. Good Marriot and similar quality hotels all around there, too.

Great recommendation - Big Cat Rescue. I took my family a few years ago, and it was well worth it. It's near the Citrus Park mall.
