I think somebody told me once you have to partially freeze catfish to slice it thin. I've personally never done it though.

I would guess shipping it would be expensive.

Did you check out any of the thin catfish farms ?

If you do end up with big filets and end up cutting them yourself, I recommend that you cut the bottom layer of grayish-pink fat off. The fat on catfish, especially the big filets, can make it taste funky, IMO.

Was coming to suggest a deli slicer, but saw it mentioned. Also, google ways to slice something thin using household objects - there are some genius ideas out there.

If the fillets are big and thick you can slice them as they thaw. That us what I'd do. Call a wholesale foodservice supply house and see what they have.

Edited to add. Read the other posts who all said what I said only quicker and worded better.

Do you have a sam's? They carry delta pride smallish fillets usually. Wally world may carry them too. I have seen them at Jewel in Chicago, so Delta Pride catfish gets around.

You could try cutting thin strips of Catfis instead of slicing the whole filet. So it's like sicken strips. We use these on our poboys and platters and people love it.

The fish to batter ratio you can work out to your liking and it cooks pretty quickly as well

Don't know if there is Sam's in Philly but their flash frozen catfish when thawed is some of the best catfish I have ever fried....be a lot cheaper.
