I think they should have spent the entire season jumping around between the wedding, and then the next 20 years. Would have made the payoff A LOT better.
Agree. I said that along time ago not even knowing how far into the future they were gonna go

I would have had a scene where te is talking with Lily and Marshall, and they give him the whole six year speech, not the kids. Then he has the sky conversation, then goes to see Robin. Then they cut bak to him at the train station, do the TM scene, and then cut to a huge montage of all the close encounters they had. That's how I met your mother. Done.
If we go into the finale with the knowledge that Tracy dies, then it would've been able to be pulled off much better. Ted tells his kids about seeing their mother for the first time when she's on stage at the wedding reception and ended his storytelling there.."So kids, that's How I Met Your Mother." Then they proceed to tell him to go after Aunt Robin. He hesitates. They insist. On the way to Robin's apt, Ted thinks back to the train station where he actually met/talked to the mother for the first time. We get to actually see the moment they really met. Then cut to Ted smiling as he looks up at the sky right before he holds up the blue horn towards Robin's window.
That's about only way I could come up with to juggle the transition from Tracy to Robin. At least Ted's love for Tracy, his soulmate, is in the final scene of the show.

I think the producers fell too in love with the scene they filmed in season 1. You could tell it was disjointed and poorly edited compared to everything else.
Had they just abandoned that scene, which they no doubt kept around for cuteness and novelty, they could executed everything better, even if the storyline stayed the same.

Upon rewatch of the last 10 minutes, I think they closed out all the other character storylines really well. The train platform scene was perfection. The only thing I feel kinda iffy about is how it quickly turned from, "this is how I met your now dead mom" to kids I want to get back with Robin because I've always had a thing for her. But you have to realize the depression of losing his wife and the kids losing their mom had probably been rehashed over and over throughout the 6 years between her dying and him telling the story. From their perspective, there's no need to be overly sentimental since they've done that. When you lose a loved one you eventually become less sentimental as time passes. I mean shite, Marshall was cracking jokes about his dead dad two years later.

Doing the sky talk right before the window would of been great.
I still think the mother, robin/barney, and/or the long arse wedding season needed to go. The basic plot is good, just really badly executed.

We did... it was made pretty obvious before the finale.
Although I think your progression would have made for a much better episode.

It was a theory. We never knew for sure.

how it doesnt make him love their mother any less.
I disagree. If Ted had found a woman after the Mom dies that he had never met before, i would agree. But to say you are in love with a woman you dated and were obsessed with before meeting your dead wife, changes everything. It 100% makes the Mother a consolation prize in my opinion

quote:Did they only break up with their high school sweetheart because their best friend married them? Ted only let go of Robin because he had too, not on his own. So for him to go back to her after the mothers death makes the mother a consolation the whole time he was with her
i completely disagree with you. there are tons of instances where someone goes back and marries their high school sweetheart after going through life.
For further proof, the whole time he is telling his kids about his so called soulmate, he talks so much about Robin that his kids can see he loved her more. It is pretty terrible in a story about you dead wife you talk about some other chick more

I felt the same way until I went back and watched the pilot this AM (which I haven't watched in a while). The whole story he told his kids was from the day he met Robin. The finale wrapped up 'why'. I will admit it all felt a little rushed, but people would be complaining with any scenario. It's a sitcom, not Six Feet Under.

I mean think about it. As a teenager, you ask your dad how he met your dead mother. And instead of some romantic story about how he met your mom, he talks about your "Aunt" so much that it is obvious to you he loves her. That isnt sweet or endearing, that is freaking awful

The quote that I saw was:
quote:
"That's insane...There are some crazy conspiracy theories, which actually makes me really love the fans more...That's so crazy."
it pretty ambiguous.

Yep, so incredibly hot. Way better looking than her "mother".

like i said before. i believe ted began the story to talk about is life before their mother and as he talked about robin more he realized he was in deep with her and now has a chance to love again.

quote:No, i dont beleive that at all. But I know for a fact if I listened to my Dad tell me a story about my dead mother, and in that story he talked 99% more about my "Aunt", so much so that i could tell he was in love with her, that I would be freaking livid. And i would 100% view my mom as my dads consolation. There was multiple ways for Ted to move on from his dead wife. But to put him back with Robin, the way they did it, completely cheapens the value of the mother and even the Title of the show
I guess you believe there is only one person in the whole word out there for some one and thats it
