Also...I want to point out that robin is really a POS. She is the worst person on the show. By far.

Not worse than Lily. Definitely worse than she used to be. I loved her post relationship with Ted and pre- Barney.

Has it been brought up that in hindsight it comes across that ted is telling this story to the kids to try the waters on how they would feel about him getting back with robin?

The show should have been called, I want to get with Aunt Robin

This finale was so terrible for so many reasons which have all been mentioned already. But I will say that Ted ending up with Robin really strips any sympathy the viewer should have about the mothers death. I mean the whole show is about how ted met the kids MOTHER. Then we are left with a 5 second oh yea she died and there's just zero feeling there.

Also as for Barney and Robin, I thought they went very well together. They are both selfish people who we watched change over time and learn selflessness from each other. Then they erased all that character development in about 10 minutes.

Didn't the kids basically say that?

Someone edited a cut where the show ends with the train scene.

And if they had ended it with that, everything would be fine. We'd be bitching about minor flaws of the finale instead of debating the validity of the entire premise of the show.

On another note, the producers knew what was going to happen for 8 years...yet in two flash forwards from previous seasons of Ted's wedding, the ceremony looks completely different. For a show that is supposedly so "self-aware" that is pretty lazy.

They had an emotional goldmine on their hands story-wise. We know everything about Ted, and we know JUST enough about the mother.

Can you imagine the ending just being "Kids, that's how I met your mother. And as amazing the 9 years I spent leading up to just meeting her was, they were nothing compared to the joy I had in the 10 years I spent with her."

They could have shed the tears of EVERY person watching.

The show should have been called "This has all been an elaborate waste of time, and here's why."

It was a really funny show for awhile and still had some bright spots over the last few years. It just went on too long and they made some really poor decisions to reach the end point they wanted there in the last 2 seasons. They had a good run, just sucks they blew what should of been an easy layup. I am ok with it though.

thats fine. so did i and after a few episode i realized what it was, as Baloo said, "A show about telling stories about a group of friends". and thats how i took it. that they would tell you the mother and end it. and thats exactly what they did so i am satisfied.

+1. I personally enjoyed the ending... As far as humor goes, I thought it was one of the funnier episodes in a long time.

Just finished watching. I mean I don't mind HOW it ended, but the journey to that point was a waste. Execution was terrible and I just kind of said meh.

Wasted opportunities. As a whole the show is great, but man the last season was a let down and the final episode didn't really fix that.

This is my biggest hang up with the whole thing. They have spent two to three years having Barney grow up and took away the number 1 thing about the show for years to only have him revert back after a failed marriage that he wanted to work.

The finale just felt like a clusterfrick that they could have done over the last few episodes instead of wanting to spring a surprise at us and end it quickly at the end. Did they even show any of the wedding or just up to it and then in the middle of the reception when Ted decided to leave?

The writers literally took that whole episode to say frick you to the viewers.

They tried to not make lily look like the bad guy and Marshall magically getting another shot at judgeship

Oh what's that? Y'all wanted us to quit the whole robin Ted thing? Ok cool....NOT

Hey viewers we wasted your time making you think Ted loved the mother sooooooooo much, but really he is just a high schooler more concerned about wanting what he can't have and getting back with his ex
