I guess you didn't pick up that this story up until the final 2 minutes of the show was about the journey up until meeting the mother and not Ted and Robin.

The story doesn't change cause they put some rushed, craptastic ending on the end of it. It certainly cheapens the story, but it doesn't change it.

Bingo. People are wanting the story to not be about the mother. The Title of the show is, "How I met your MOTHER". It is fine if you liked the finale, but the last 2 minutes was pulling the rug out from under the audience. There is no way around that

Nobody is saying you can't love more than one person. However, the basic premise of HIMYM was how Ted's journey led to him meeting his one true soulmate. There was a constant theme throughout the show of everything building to that moment....and then it was just glossed over.

The negative reaction to the ending isn't a reaction to someone loving more than two people. Its a reaction to watching the culmination of Ted's 9 year journey only to see it dismissed so quickly so the ending with Robin could be realized. So instead of the moment of how Ted met Tracy being the focal point of the show, (Which is promised in its own very title) it is instead Ted returning to Robin. Throw in not even talking about Tracy's death, the complete waste of time of Barney & Robin's wedding, Ted & Tracy living in sin, the absolute garbage pacing of the finale...and you have what's fueling this reaction.

"I watched this Chiantown movie for two goddamn hours and there wasn't ONE scene about Chinatown. What a ripoff."

It wasn't really about the Mother because of the, you know, nine years of the series that weren't about her. If you hadn't figured out the premise was just an excuse to show stories about a bunch of friends... I really don't know what to tell you.

Maybe they pulled the rug, but having watched this show, I was nowhere near it.

She was around enough for him to cheat on his wife with, which im sure he did. Because you know that is reality, which is what so many people seem to like about the finale

We will just have to agree to disagree. I watched the show since the beginning and I feel as the finale cheapened the show for me.

thats fine. so did i and after a few episode i realized what it was, as Baloo said, "A show about telling stories about a group of friends". and thats how i took it. that they would tell you the mother and end it. and thats exactly what they did so i am satisfied.

Anyone think old Ted looks like Craig Ferguson?

And what's up with Robin looking so young? She's like 55. Apparently just cutting your hair makes you age. Pretty lazy job there.

Alternate cut of ending

Someone edited a cut where the show ends with the train scene.

Edit: Screw it I think I'm pulling a 180. Just rewatched the real ending with Ted holding the blue horn up in the air and it is definitely in the spirit of the show to end like that. Still pissed at how they handled the Barney situation, but I don't feel the Ted/Mother situation was cheapened by anything. And The Mother also turned the page to the next love of her life after the passing of her boyfriend. But things happen, and you have to move on as best you can. In short...

TED and ROBIN FOREVER!!!

I wish they would've just ended it after the umbrella scene.

But they allowed that page to be turned by showing her emotion of the events.

They showed her after the funeral. They told a story (even if only briefly) that she went years without dating. Then they had a very emotional scene where she couldn't move on without a sign that it was okay.

Instead, they gloss over her death, and make a joke of Ted moving on. Literally. The progression of grief to acceptance is shown through a joke.

"You are totally in to Aunt Robin." "Here I am telling a story that is straight to the point about your mother." **Laughter**

Had Ted met and married Tracy in Season 1, she died in Season 5, and then the series ended with him wanting to date Robin, that is acceptable. We as viewers would be able to scale time and acceptance. Yes, people DO move on. A man who becomes a widower at 50 will likely date again. However, you cannot make your viewers fall in love with a character, kill her off, and have them move on all in a 2 minute span.

Has it been brought up that in hindsight it comes across that ted is telling this story to the kids to try the waters on how they would feel about him getting back with robin?

Would be shitty

Also...I want to point out that robin is really a POS.

She is the worst person on the show. By far.

I think that's why I hated the ending.... Winding up with Robin after Tracy dies is worst case scenario IMO.
