I'm no expert, so this may or may not be true, but I've always heard that animal bones are fine, its bird bones (chicken, turkey) that you want to stay away from since they are hollow. They can splinter and pierce the intestinal tract. Double check me on the pork though.

I will not give my dog a chicken bone, but would give her a ham bone.

My lab ate two racks worth of pork rib bones and the only ill effect was a beat arse for getting in the trash, so I vote it's ok.

This is what my daughter told me and she is a Vet. She told me she has to do surgery a few times a year for that.

My dog has had at least 15 boston butt bones. No ill effects. Cooked round chicken bones are the only ones I will not give her. Lots of white poo results.

while I tell all my clients that it is probably best to avoid bones because I don't want to be the one who said it was ok then something went wrong. I will give my dog a long bone from a deer and sometimes a bone from a pork shoulder. Just take it from them when it starts getting small. I have seen intestinal perforations from chicken bones and also rib bones but its not common. They can also get obstructions if they swallow large pieces. The more common problem is vomiting and diarrhea. Again not going to happen to every dog but prevention is the best treatment.

My lab never got any people food except at my parent's house. My step-mom gave her a ham bone and she got SAF in the kennel. I had to clean that shite up too. Sucked!
