re: Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Complex Virtual Tour

Kudos for your argument, but I respectfully disagree. There are factors of demographics, income of potential customers, the true market demand for major athletics in your area, etc. (e.g., even analyzing a ULL fan in terms being an economic contributor vis-à-vis an LSU (major college) fan) that come into play that take too long to lay out going back and forth on a message board. In my opinion though for the past 40 years or so, the ULL position that the answer is that we will have major sports (football) and then we'll work back into the problem and juggle the factors to make make the answer yes. As opposed to looking at where you are, resources and potential resources, realistic market expectations, and then tailoring your program to reality. Same goes for Tech and ULM.

I think it is great ULL is finally getting their shite together

Should have happened 15 yrs ago

There is a ton of ULL alumni money that goes to TAF and that is a shame

The stuff we're spending money on is meant to improve our athletic department which should in turn equal more revenue. It also means growth. We need to be able to grow our program so we may one day become more self sufficient and use less subsidies.

Some LSU fan logic about UL(L) (not all LSU fans):

From the start.....

"Cajun fans have penis envy and need to know their place. They will never be LSU, so they should worry about themselves and win some more games and one day make a bowl game. They can't even beat the local high school football team."

After the Cajuns start winning....

"Yeah they have done everything I mentioned for them to have success, but it's only the New Orleans Bowl.".......still not good enough

Cajuns start winning AND implement a master plan for athletic facilities....

"Oh look. ULL is finally making a move to better its program with their plans just the way I had mentioned. BUT BUT the state has to pay for some of it."

I swear, nothing is ever good enough with some people.

Hey people, there are MAYBE 25 college athletic programs around the country that are self-sufficient. Every other school gets some sort of state funding or similar aid for projects similar to the one in Lafayette.

I'm impressed you've spent years on a troll account to flame UL. Maybe you can impress me more and suck start a shotgun.

Everyone wants to be part of a winner. When your donation that was directed to your athletic program gets transferred to academics by an administration that says athletics is no big deal, you lose hope.

There are many local donors in Lafayette that are finally starting to trust the new administration and donate again.

re: Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Complex Virtual Tour

We have a fundamental disagreement on the potential of our athletic department. We're not going to change each other's minds on that so I think this argument is over.

You think the program can only go so far and that they should just be content with what they have. I think the program has much more potential for a few reasons. But the main reason is the money in Lafayette. There are tons of untapped resources in this city we can use to our advantage if we continue winning AND making improvements such as this athletic complex. Am I saying we can one day be on LSU's level? No. But I am saying we can be much bigger and better than we are now. I've seen this city rally around the Cajuns on more than one occasion. And that showed a glimpse of the kind of support we would get from this town if we keep growing and have more sustained success.

I'd like to see the money that LTAC raises for La Tech because RCAF is still very young and has raised $1.3m so far this year.

it's nice as it should be since it's funded with state tax dollars.

True but that money is sent to LSU to have access to tickets to see Bama, Florida, UGA, etc.

ULL will always be handicapped by the Sun Belt. A home schedule of Nichols, Texas State, New Mexico, Troy, and ULM doesn't exactly get the juices flowing and inspire contributions.

ULL's mistake was insisting on remaining division 1 years ago. Compete against SFA, Sam Houston, Southeastern, Nichols, McNeese, Northwestern, etc. That's your station. Dominate that level rather than forever be stuck at the bottom.

What's better? Finally getting a Sun Belt conference championship or winning an FCS national title? Will these facility improvements vault ULL all the way to the Beef O'Brady's Bowl?

As far as the state tax dollar contribution argument goes, given the current state of higher ed funding, I can understand the frustration from some folks who feel dumping money into the athletic budget of a sun belt school is a waste of resources.

It's funny how the "I/we got mine/ours, so frick you" mindset has perpetuated itself into every facet of the American lifestyle. LSU never depended on state tax dollars since its inception?

The only reason LSU is self-sufficient now-a-days is because of the immense amount of state resources that were funneled to LSU since the days of Huey Long.

Ah, the same ole "know your place" cry.

New facility improvements/enhancements are one-way tickets to better conferences so we don;t have to play teams like Nichols and Troy. They're your number one marketing tool in order for a program to grow. Plain and simple. If you look at schools who are moving to bigger and better conferences, take a look at each of their stadiums and facilities. Almost every single school went under a facility upgrade. And guess what? Most of them were STATE FUNDED. As of 2012, there were only 23 universities that were self-sufficient.

You think we would be able to attract teams like Boise State, Oklahoma State, or Kansas State to Lafayette by being FCS? No, because FBS schools don't travel to FCS schools.

Not to mention, being ranked in the preseason top 50 doesn't really consider you to be "stuck at the bottom." Like I mentioned in a previous post, there's always people who look at the negative side whenever another in-state school not named LSU tries to grow or improve themselves.

You gotta just ignore that, man. It's actually a pretty funny opinion because of how stupid it is.

Yeah, forget about trying to grow other universities in the state to create a little competition to better everyone else. As long as LSU beats Bama in November, that's all that matters.

It doesn't make any sense because of the money involved. No team is going to willingly leave that money on the table to go down to FCS. If any school were to do it, it would be ULM, though
