It's the new national pastime: outrage about anything and everything.

I think the cover shot makes him look glamorous. I would like to see him in two years when you will be able to drop a coffee can down his bunghole. #prisonlife

He'll end up in a super max with little or no physical contact with other prisoners. He will slowly lose his mind, but is unlikely to get the prison rape treatment...providing he doesn't get the fed death sentence.

I wouldn't think twice about this
Why does this not surprise me in the least.

I can't believe people are making a big deal about it.

You do still have your legs though, right?

So Rolling Stone puts a "he's too cute to be a killer" photo on its cover. Sets the shot up like Tsarnaev is Julian Casablancas of The Strokes doing a photo shoot, and out to pull heartstrings of teens near and far. They run a cover tease more appropriate for a discussion of Lindsay Lohan's fall from her lofty status as a "B-level" actress.

No big deal for "people" though.
Let's move on.
It doesn't matter.

Really nothing that does not directly impact you matters, right?
That is what society is all about . . . it's about you.
Given that attitude, I don't get the big deal either.
Really, I don't.

For Jeff Bauman it might be "a big deal" . . . but
. . . . other than that, it isn't a big deal.

You are acting just like the media did during the Zimmerman trial.

it's a dichotomy that is referenced in the tag line

the terrorist lying in wait...the one you'd never expect

re: Rolling Stones and Tsarnaev cover: I don't get the big deal

It's pretty simple really. It's the Cultural blending of terrorist shitbag with celebrity culture. Set aside that's it's just in really poor taste for the victims and their families. Set aside that it's just ridiculously low rent to use a photo that paints him in a flattering light. The only photo of this guy we should be putting on covers should actively demystify him, not further this simplistic Teen Beat "teen gone wrong" Narrative that insults the intelligence of anybody over the age 17.

To paste a glamour photo on the cover of a magazine and give this guy any kind of Islamist Street cred, virtually assures he becomes a cause celebre in Islamist circles. He will be toasted, the cover will hang on walls across the Mideast, and it will be seen as just another reward that awaits the terrorist. Blow up some people, kill some kids, In America they will give you your Rolling Stone moment, and transform you from a garden-variety shitstain to a Cultural Icon.

It's just not a smart move. Nobody profits except for the terrorist, Rolling Stone and the guys who recruit and make this stuff appealing to future terrorists. And the families, victims, and FUTURE victims pay for this. It's just fricking stupid to give people another reason to kill us. And it's stupid to attempt to normalize evil. I mean we could put up a picture of Pol Pot surfing, but to get the measure of the man, I'd rather see a picture of the two million skulls. (somebody explain to Cwill who Pol Pot was in case Wiki is down).

On a very basic human level it incentivizes terrorism. Pretty pitiful move. And not hard to understand at all.

Would the right-wing domestic terrorist the media were HOPING was responsible have gotten the rock-star cover and 'family failed him' treatment? I think we know the answer to that.

What's really sad is you believe this nonsense. You're a fricking cartoon.

You just decided to post a random photo?
Or are you pointing out duplicitous similarities between Tsarnaev's RS Cover glamor shot, and the widely distributed photo of TM when he was 13y/o without gold teeth, or an affinity for weed, guns and fights?

My point is you are posting pictures to elicit high emotional responses, just like the media did during the Zimmerman trial.

It's funny that people on this board chastised the media for this, and now the same posters are letting visceral emotions override their reason.

This is nuts.

A picture speaks a thousands words in one instant. I know the article is not kind at all to him and calls him a monster but RollingStone was a few pancakes short of the whole stack with a good photo of him on their cover.

The young man is infamous, and there is nothing wrong with trying to get all sides of the story.

The point is that they are investigating how a seemingly 'normal' kid (which the cover depicts) can turn into someone so maniacal.

The cover photo makes a point.

However, Rolling Stone had to know it was going to rub people the wrong way.

It does say monster right there in the corner.

However, it does make home look glamorous at a glance.

RS was wrong yet so are the people that are reactionary about it.

I say the onus is on the reader to not be superficial and to actually read the contents of the article.

Have you heard the expression, "don't judge a book by its cover"?

What? A normal kid? The young man looks like every self-absorbed teenager you would find at the mall.
