In LA - 0
In Ontario - lots especially late in season, they are an Eastern flyway bird. Smart bird - often they land outside dekes and you have to keep calling and try to get them to swim into decoys - then there might be an Arkansas wingshot ;)

34, it looks like it. I could have the names all backwards. But all I do know it that the bone structure is one way to tell 100%. You have to look at it closely though

I've been on hunts with a few killed. We killed one last year in Miss and the year before in Oak Ridge. My dad had a banded black duck mounted when I was a kid. One day he and mom got in an argument about him duck hunting too much. The end result was she chunked his prized banded black duck in the garbage. It's still a sore subject some 25 years later..

I think I got duck fever knowing what they were and shot poorly.
You just summed it up for me. Had 3 chances to kill one and didn't get any

I will mount one before my time is done

Many years ago, there used to be a lot of Black Ducks down in Hopedale. We used to bag them all the time. Now, not many. And yes, I know the difference in between the two.

one has a light chin the other doesn't. Thats how you tell the on the wing. I'm pretty sure the mottled has the light spot, but I havent seen one since in 12 or so years.

Wen in doubt, its a mallard hen.

If I was thinking anything at the time, that was it!

It definately wasnt a "hoooly shite" moment. Picked it up and had a "dafuq" moment.

BB, eaaasy easy . Back then I was just pulling the trigger, unkown to any mystic species coming at me.

If you don't know the back story on that, someone (can't remember who it was) here posted pics of the "walleye" that they had caught. It was a sauger.
