I wouldn't want to go with a Noel/Davis frontcourt. Davis's family was angry that we picked him. He would be lagging behind Davis and would kind of ruin the excitement of the rebuild and name change.
Besides that, it seems like everyone here is in agreement with most of the posts. Considering that most of the posters here actually watched the Pelicans, unlike some of these writers, it's a good sign.

You get in the top 5 for next year (which will be impossible now because we're better than that) and then you add one more great young piece and you have a super core of four studs + Ryno.
And then by the time the team is ready to compete (if those draft picks pan out), you're forced to make financial decisions on which young guys to keep.
With the way the team is assembled now, they have the main guys locked up for 4 years to see how they can grow together.

What piece?

I think OBUDan isn't considering that, at the end of the day, the NBA is a BUSINESS. This tanking for ages would just be bad business for benson.

Without accounting for the fact that a player's development is not static. Guys that are of the age of all of the players we have, with the skill they have, are for most part, going to get significantly better. Davis in particular should progress. The NBA has proven time and time again that one player reaching superstar status can transform you from an 8 seed to a legit contender.
This is the biggest reason I don't buy the middle of the pack team forever theory with regards to our offseason. If AD turns into a superstar with the improvement of our young core, our future is very, very bright. It's a bet that it seems Dell was willing to put money down on.

OKC didn't go from awful to the finals. Or from awful and max out early on.
They were terrible, then made the playoffs as an 8 seed, and lost in the 1st round. Next year they went to the conference finals. Next year they went to the nba finals.
Thats the type of progression i'd love to see from us.

Drummond falling to 10 would have been the best possible news for us last year, IMO. Obviously that didn't happen.
But of the guys picked from 10 on, Harkless, Henson, Sullinger.
I'm not talking about a star here, just a good, solid player. Pretty much anyone picked in the 1st that played last year, played better than Rivers.

barely any of them actually played though

I didn't care for Rivers heading into the draft either, so I have more faith in a guy like Jeremy Lamb becoming something that I do AR.

Rivers was a wasted pick, but at least pretty much everyone after him did nothing last year too

You're basing it on nothing. After Rivers, the rest of the picks are a whole lot of suck, outside of Harkless.

Guess they wanted their own twin towers?
He was the best player left too, so I can't blame them for taking him.

Nerlens has the potential to be a top C in the league.
I think he'll be a solid role player wherever he goes if his injuries so far are an issue.
Kevin Garnett, skinny as he is, still outweighs Nerlens by almost 60 lbs.

They traded a 23 year old all-star for a 200 pound center with a destroyed knee and no offensive game whatsoever and a 15-20 pick in the draft
Homerism at its finest. On draft night Pelican fans were so excited that Noel fell to them. Now he is just some skinny chump whose ceiling is Larry Sanders. Holiday is a young, emerging talent that's already made an all-star team! Never mind that he is horribly inefficient on offense and hasn't shown much improvement since entering the league.

I don't think so. Rivers was bad when he played. I wasn't a huge fan of his leading into the draft either, so for me, I don't have faith he'll be that much better.
Obviously others feel differently. But my point is, I think guys like Henson, Sullinger, Lamb, Harkless, etc. will get better and be solid NBA contributors, and I don't feel that way about Rivers.
But JMO.

Having better point, assist, steal numbers is "not showing improvement"?

Why do the Pelicans occupy such a large part of your mind? You must think about the Pelicans more than I do every day. Some people were excited about the potential of a Davis-Noel front court (I wasn't because I think I have bigger shoulders than Noel. Still think he busts.), but more people were pumped at getting a proven player when we need to win now.
Wow, frick me for thinking that 43% FGs and putting up 18 and 8 on a shite team with a 16.7 PER was a pretty talented player. Apparently that's the new bar for horribly inefficient.
Lol. Guess all those guys putting him in the lead for MIP all year are morons who don't know as much about basketball as Mr. ZTiger.

It would also be very bad basketball. By the time AD is at his prime, you have him surrounded by 1st and 2nd year guys who aren't ready and chances are they aren't ever elite players either.
The way Demps has planned this team, Davis will hit his prime at the same time that most of our core team will (Evans, Jrue, hopefully Gordon).
We will make the playoffs this year as a 6 seed and Dell will package some of these 1 year deals and others to trade for a very good Center or Small Forward for next season where we compete for the Conference Title.
Everyone will be playing in their prime at the same time. Do not question Dell Demps.
