I will not be joining you in the brewing this weekend. Headed to Austin after work today for beer and BBQ

I'll Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V my last post in the FBD thread from last night.
quote:
was slightly intoxicated last night and wanted to know if my few month old milled base grain was still good so I mashed a cup or two in a little sauce pot on my stove.
Stuck my finger in there 45 minutes later and it tasted sweet so I figured it was still good.
Then I had a little un-hopped wort just sitting there and decided to use it. BIAB'd it into a cup and wrapped the cup up in another mesh bag to keep the bugs out and stuck it in my oak tree over night...
Grabbed it this morning and threw it in the flask on the stir plate to see what I may have got...?
frick if I know.
TL;DR: Made a small amount of wort to try to catch wild yeast while drunk last night.

I may brew on Sunday. Either an imperial stout or a Citra pale ale.

I brewed a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale clone this past Sunday. Can't wait to try it the color was beautiful when I was done boiling the wort.

Just tried it and.... Wow
This is a really really good beer. It could be a little drier, but I have impressed myself
It needs to warm up a bit to release its full flavors but damn. So far, I'm 2 for 2 with my own recipes

I finally bought the kit! I'm going to buy the car boy from our local brew shop. Buying it off the website added $25 extra dollars on shipping. The kit came with all the ingredients for an Irish red ale, so I guess I'll brew that first just to get all the processes down before reaching out.

get the foodies to make a blue plate special, and Octberfest it year round

Question about brew pots, does it have to be stainless or is a regular aluminum crawfish lot ok?

So I am getting ready to venture on my very first homebrew. My wife bought me a Mr Beer setup and the "How to Brew" book. After reading the first third or so of the book, I've returned the Mr Beer setup and have been researching a better startup kit. I've found this one on Northern Brewing ( LINK). It seems to be a good starter, easily expandable and pretty cheap. Of course I've got to buy a 5 gallon kettle now so that adds some cost. Also planning to buy a thermometer.
Any thoughts on that setup? Sufficient for or a first timer?

Anyone ever seen these before? They are the inside of a southern star keg. I haven't tinkered with them yet, but I wonder if they can be reused. Any ideas?
