Gonna bump the amounts up just a little:
2.5 oz Citra
1.25 oz Amarillo
Added after flameout, probably split between immediately after and once it's cooled some
Dry hop with the same amounts

I need to get finals over with already. Reading this thread is killing me, there needs to be a hop moratorium till May 8th.

Got my scoresheets in yesterday for the NHC in Nashville. My coffee vanilla porter that advanced to the final round scored a 41.5.
Also submitted an American pale ale that scored decently (34.5), but didn't advance. The judges really liked the hop aroma and flavor, but wanted more malt balance. Pfft...as if.

This will be 5 gallons and I used 8oz of pellets in the boil. Gonna dry hop with about 3-4 more.
Jesus man. That's a lot of hops (in a good way). What were your IBU's?

Cut your heat and give your pot a good stir. Keep stirring until the temp drops to 190. Add your hops. The flavor difference you get from adding below 190 vs 212 is amazing.
Hmmm... i've always literally added my flameout hops at flameout. I'll definitely chill it before pitching at flameout from now on.
FWIW, i bottled my Galaxy extra pale ale. Finished at 1.010, dry hopped with 3 oz. of Galaxy. 56 IBU's, 5.4% It's got 7% oats. It's a good easy drinker. Can't wait for it to carbonate. On first taste, Galaxy appears to be a bit more delicate than say Citra or Mosaic.

I've been chilling to 180 then adding the whirlpool hops the last few times I've made an IPA or hoppy pale ale. Like you said, the difference is astounding. All those delicate hop oils don't boil off, yet the warmer temperature extracts the most from them.

By my estimate, it should be around 110+. Maybe even around 120.

questions for yall
in one recipe I see the following mash schedule:
Mash Schedule
-----------------
Sacch 45 min @ 149F
Sacch II 15 min @ 161F
does that mean raising the temp of the mash or adding more water to raise the temps?
whats the goal behind this, to increase FG?
If you do this, does the water for the second step come from the original mash volume or the sparge volume?
Does it mess up your efficiency?
thanks

Another brew day finished. Came in much higher than anticipated with my OG. That's always nice.

You did that Wheat recipe you posted earlier? Amarillo and Citra hopped wheat beer sounds good.
Posted on 4/14/15 at 10:37 pm to rbWarEagle
Yessir. It's based on Modern Times Fortunate Islands.

Never had it but the description sounds delicious. Good luck
Anyone have a Ghost clone yet? I feel like the hop schedule is like Cascade at 60, Citra at 30, Citra at flameout, cooled, Citra again... and then dry hopped with Citra.

A ghost clone would be great. We need to get Andrew to help us out with a recipe.
Posted on 4/14/15 at 10:43 pm to LoneStarTiger
Sounds good to me. Who is Andrew?
Posted on 4/14/15 at 11:08 pm to rbWarEagle
Andrew Godley, owner and brewmaster at Parish.

The hop schedule for Ghost has changed between every batch. Unless Andrew gives you the recipe for a specific batch, you're trying to hit a moving target.

Yeah, I imagine so. I would love to get a color like that from my next DIPA.
