Well done sir

I have seen a lot of Johnsons and I myself have one that has worked flawlessly for over 30 yrs.
Of course I make sure to keep the vessel it is in in tip top shape.
Oh btw you have to make sure you use a Johnson frequently unlike other pieces of equipment if it sits around too long without use, things get all mucked up. I recommend bi weekly runs on the vessel of choice even if it is only for a short trip. Noon seems to be a good weekday time as other distractions are usually clear of the ramp at that time. On these short trips it is important to run the Johnson until it heats up and the temp valve opens allowing the ejection port to spew. That is the only way to ensure proper functioning.

I don't know if you're doing it on purpose but you're killing me.

One last piece of advice
Johnsons can certainly run when dirty but they prefer to be clean. I clean mine at least once a day. Warm water and a mild soap is all you need. make sure the main shaft and motor head are well cleaned and be careful not to get any soap or water in the ejection port. Pay no attention to your wife or neighbors criticism, it is your Johnson and you are allowed to clean it for as long and as often as you see fit.

Does a bigger prop improve performance and ride of a johnson?

Boats
not sure if you want serious advice or not
but here it is...
pull drain screw on bottom of carb bowl
let all full run out
replacedrain screw and put your hose in the seafoam can and pump carbs full
let sit over night
drain carbs. pump back up with fuel
sometimes this works sometimes it just breaks more crud loose and makes it worse..
those carbs are easy to remove and clean fwiw

No but shaft length does affect performance and the power head size does seem to affect the power.
Despite conflicting reviews the size or distance from the Johnson of the dual fuel tanks does not really affect the performance of the Johnson but some vessels prefer that the tanks ride in certain locations. Apparently the movement of the tanks when underway can affect vessel performance.

yeah, i showed a salt life chick my johnson and she said it had pretty good power but the shaft wasn't long enough to get deep enough behind her tail.
ETA: I told her it still got us from point a to point b but she said yeah it just took a bit longer.

In that situation you just have to mount your Johnson low on the transom and make sure it is tightly applied. Or so I have been told.

we talked about it and she said she'd be willing to give me a hand with it.

Do any of y'all have problems with too much ethanol in your system causing problems with your Johnson? A friend of mine has an old stick steering boat and his old Johnson just will not run well with hardly any ethanol in the system. When the old thing wont go he calls it Whisky Stick, for the stick steering I guess?

Yes, it's a good idea to add a can of seafoam to a full tank of gas to keep carbon down, but if you also wanna use it on your Johnson...well that's your business!
