It takes almost zero planning and it's fun. I don't get the hate for it other than people being vacation snobs

There are different kind of cruises that do different port of calls, but are much more expensive. You get what you pay for.

Worst way to see an area is on a large ship cruise. It's great if you like cruising, but not if you want to see an area. Large ship cruises are absolutely the worst way to see Alaska.

Small ship, adventure cruises are the way to go.

Oh, I would too, BUT not for an additional $500 (over 4 days) or so.

My wife, myself and daughter are all going for like $800. I couldn't even find a one bedroom condo somewhere that we liked over labor day weekend for that, and the cruise includes entertainment and food.

True. If you do your research ahead of time you can break free of the standard cruise ship excursions and tourist traps. Most people don't have a clue though.

i have some friends that did a catameran tour for a week around the virgin island a couple years ago it was 3 couples on a boat, and 3 crewman. they said it was awesome b/c you really went into the nature around all the islands and little bars and off the trail stuff only boats go too, BUT they had to put toilet paper in a trashcan, camp some nights and insects were bad, sounded like it waas almost to much roughing it.

Inbetween a catamaran tour and large cruise ships there are yacht tours and small ship cruises where you can take zodiacs and kayaks to explore areas the big ships can't get into.

If you like to cruise, take the big ship. If you want to see an area, pay the money and go on a small ship excursion.

I rented this place for 699 for the week in Tampa area Indian Shores Beach.

Really nice condo and the owner was great. Even gave us a welcome gift basket.

Still cant believe he is renting the place for 699. 799 Holidays.

Yeah, we wanted something like that, but we had to stay close. I really only have like one vacation day to spare (ironman last november, disney last january, paris a few weeks ago, state park trip for 4 days in august and disney again next january) and long weekend rates were sky high. Alot of big discounts if you booked for a week though.
