For the 5th straight year Russian River Brewing company's Pliny The Elder has been selected as the best beer available in the US. It is damn good....I highly suggest getting one should you have the means. Wish we could get them all the time here in Texas, along with some Bells beer.

The list:

The top-ranked beers include:

1. Russian River Pliny the Elder

2. Bell’s Two Hearted Ale

3. Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA

4. Bell’s Hopslam Ale

5. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

6. Founders Breakfast Stout

7. Stone Brewing Co. Arrogant Bastard Ale

8. Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA

T9. Lagunitas Sucks

T9. Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

T9. Stone Brewing Co. Ruination IPA

9 IPAs? I enjoy a good ipa, but this is rediculous.

On top of that, the only Commerical [sic] beers that deserve to be on this list [IMO] are
-Pliny
-Founder's Breakfast Stout
-Lagunita's Sucks
-maybe Hopslam.

AHA members voted for up to 20 of their favorite beers in an online poll.

1. The Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams)

Just lost alot of respect for AHA. Not that I hate Sam Adams, but this means 40 different Sam Adams Beers found thier way into lists of "Top 10-20 beers". I can't think of 1 that deserves to be in my top 20.

I disagree. I think Sculpin deserves to be there for sure.

Lots of palate wrecking. I'm surprised not to see mikkeller or evil twin on there, but that's just MHO.

Agreed. And there's no way that Lagunitas comes below Ballast Point.

To be fair the AHA isn't ranking these. They just polled their members asking what their top 20 beers were. Sam Adams may not be at the top of the list in our beer market, but there are a lot of places that are worse off than we are.

This is the list of top breweries based on number votes.

1. Stone Brewing Co., Escondido, Calif.
2. Russian River Brewing Company, Santa Rosa, Calif.
3. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, Calif.
4. Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Milton, Del.
5. Bell's Brewery, Kalamazoo, Mich.
6. Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Paso Robles, Calif.
7. Founders Brewing Company, Grand Rapids, Mich.
8. Lagunitas Brewing Company, Petaluma, Calif.
9. New Belgium Brewing Company, Fort Collins, Colo.
10. Deschutes Brewery, Bend, Ore.

One would be too many for me. Drinking an IPA is like taking a whiff of decaying grass.

Had Pliny for the first time about 10 days ago in San Diego. As good as I expected.
