quote:

There is something about bourbon that’s captured our global attention. In North America sales have soared and in the U.S., where bourbon originates, one of the nation’s most popular whiskey makers reversed a decision to water down its recipe in an effort to meet worldwide demand.

Some say the rise in bourbon sales is due to the growth of small batch and single barrel bourbon in the 1990s, while others say it has to do with the resurgence in popularity of hard-liquor swilling characters and settings on television shows such as Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire.

Don't forget to raise a glass today of the F&DB favorite nectar.

Got a bottle of Angel's Envy that hasn't been opened. Maybe tonight is the night.

What type of bitters should I use in my OF? I have Pesch. but should I get Angostura?

Also, why cherries? I haven't seen a recipe that calls for them.

i have had an OF and i personally think its an insult to good bourbon. Good bourbon is made to drink on the rocks or with maybe a splash of water.

I won't disagree but I will say this. People tell me ordering sushi is an insult to the fish and that I should just get sashimi. I disagree. Sashimi is fantastic but sushi is great too if the chef knows how to incorporate the flavors and enhance the fish. If you are in the mood for a sushi roll or Old Fashioned, I'm sure it will only compliment the fish or bourbon if done correctly.

Very well said.

I'm gonna try Black Maple Hill tonight, I've heard good things about it.

Had a little Basil Hayden's earlier. I like my bourbon light in the summer.

I agree with this. Basil is great when it's hot.

Love Blanton's (had some neat last night) and love old fashioneds...just not together...

I asked for a Maker's old fashioned at Delachaise last night...when I got the check I realized they only carried Makers 46...even that's too good to mix in an old fashioned IMO...

But as long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters...
