can a contract be worked out in january and then he be released in july like a gotze scenario? seems like that would be the best idea for dortmund. dont wanna let lewa go for free in july (making a deep CL run is worth a shite ton to possibly cover it, though), but would be sweet if we could get a hefty transfer fee as well as still having a great year.

Yes, players are allowed to officially sign a contract with another club if their current contract has less than 6 months remaining.
