Apparently recruiting isn't over until they actually get on campus now. Arguably the top high school DT in the country.
If these belongs on the Recruiting board, feel free to move it there.

Crazy he could just leave ND like that

UCLA has a chance to be pretty ole good in the not too distant future.

ND did not release him from his letter of intent.

Some kid that signed with FSU (5*/Top LB) was trying to back out of his LOI a few weeks back. He said that he felt pressured by his parents to choose Florida State and wanted to look around. Not sure what came of it.

His parents are divorced. Mom wanted FSU, Dad apparently wanted another school. He chose FSU, Mom left the Country, Dad apparently contacted another HC.
FSU isn't going to let him out of his LOI and more than likely he will be in the G&G next year.
Releasing kids from their LOI just because they may have regrets sets an absurd precedent.

Signed LOI.

So the coach can walk away from his contract for a better opportunity, but the player can't. Seems legit.

I actually think preventing a kid from going to certain schools/conferences is absolute insanity

Why would he sign with ND if he always wanted to remain on the West Coast the whole time?

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said today the school will not release Vanderdoes but wishes him well otherwise.
Kelly - What a prick.

Why a school would keep a kid who doesnt want to be there makes no sense to me. A) There is a media backlash B) Its easy to recruit against the school, and C) The kid is going to be a malcontent.

I'm absolutely fine with breaking the contract if the athlete can come up with the 1 mil (just my estimation of what it should be based on the recruitment of the player) buyout fee

Um, it is legit. When a coach walks away from his contract, he has breached the contract and has to pay a penalty, typically in the form of liquidated damages.
When a player walks away from a signed LOI, he has to sit out a year before he can play.

That's retarded.
