What would be the best set up to get? I am usually fishing live bait under a popper. Spinning or bait cast? What brand rod and reel?

I like bait casters but that is all personal preference.

Can't go wrong with a Curado on an All Star rod although my Castaway is one of my favorites and usually the one I grab. I also have a few Falcons I like.

I haven't bought rods or reels in quite some time so I'm sure something better has come along.

Curado or Calcutta on a 7' med/heavy rod. I use $50 Allstar classics for my rods.

I like baitcaster for almost all applications except under popping cork. I just picked up a Abu Garcia spin combo on Memorial Day sale. I don't feel I need the best of the best for a popping cork rod.

Abu Garcia revo or shimano bait casters for me

I like the all star classics. I also really like the cabelas XML and shimano crucial rods but they're pricier

I use spinning tackle mostly for saltwater. The wind can be a bitch on the baitcasters.

The Shimano Sedonas are a good buy for the money. Along with Allstar or Castaway rods. You can get a decent rig for $100 - $120.

Baitcast-shimano Calcutta on a 7' MH.
Spinning-I like a penn 5500 on a 7' MH. It could be considered overkill, but it has a drag like no other.

I can't just have 1 rod/reel for speck/red fishing. 7ft Allstar classic medium action w/Calcutta 151 when using lures and/or carolina rig. 7ft Allstar classic medium/heavy action w/Shimano spinning reel when using any type of cork and/or carolina rig

I'm a fan of spinning reels. St. Croix 7' medium rods and Okuma reels have been solid for me.

This is a very good combo for pretty cheap. I've had one for 3 years of pretty hard saltwater fish and I've had no problems.

All star rod 7ft. I been buying those H20 reels. No problem and when the salt water eats them up buy a new one. They last me quite a while but I don't go every weekend.

Shimano 4000 mid priced spinning reel on an Abu Garcia Super 7 Wal Mart special medium action. I can throw a half mile with this. (Damn near) 20lb Power Pro. Throw everything on this

Abu Garcia 4600C3 on a Kistler 7ft medium. 30lb Power Pro. Jigs and topwaters, mainly. Sometimes popping corks.

Abu Garcia 5500C3 on a 7ft Team Daiwa medium/heavy. 50lb Power Pro for slip cork rigs.

7' medium Abu Garcia vendetta rods w/ shimando sienna 2500's for now. Saving up to upgrade to stradic's. I've mostly been using spin cast lately because I'm using braid. Backlash with braid in a baitcasters ruins a reel for the day.

I like baitcasters for when there isn't much wind and I need to be more acurate with my casts. I have Calcuttas for that
