I have to suspect the selection committee will tilt things in favor of the team that brings the most revenue. That may or may not translate into a #1 seed but it might mean an easier trip to the title series.

Not just no but Hell no. And it basically doesn't matter anyway.

yes, if I remember correctly. The seeds carry over into the CWS bracket, so if all 8 national seeds made it to Omaha, the #1 seed would play the #8 seed.

LSU will NOT be lower than 4, and they will not be paired with Vanderbilt. And you never know which Super Regional the Kent State and Stony Brook come out of. They don't reseed like they should, but that's for another thread.

We absolutely would lock up the #1 seed if we win out in the SECt

If Vandy goes 0-2 and LSU sweeps then Vandy will be 48-9 and LSU will be 52-8. I would be a little surprised if LSU didn't take over the #1 spot. ETA: as long as they are #1 and #2 and in different brackets (if they both make it to Omaha) then I will be happy.

If NC would lose out in the ACC tourney that would help too.

I think the best case for us being #1 is for Vandy to win the next three games and then lose to us in the Championship. They would be 51-10, we would be 52-8 with a head to head win over them. How can that not work. (should help our RPI, also). In any event, if we win out, no way any team below us should move above us.

No. LSU will lock up a 2 seed and Vandy would end up 3 or 4.

Cal St goes 1 in that scenario

On what basis does CSF end up the 1 seed?

None if LSU wins the tournament. Not sure where he got that from. They're behind us in rpi as it is. That won't change if we win out.

Exactly.. I'm thinking he's keeping LSU from the 1 seed because of their RPI and putting CSF at 1 without looking at their RPI.

LSU will be a top 3 seed in they win the SEC tournament.

Every year is different but the 1 seed doesn't win the CWS too often. LSU won the national title as a 2 and 3 seed.. I'd take the 2 seed.

I know the RPI has a lot to do with NCAA tourney seedings but I want to ask if RPI is already locked and conference championships have no bearing on RPI? Is that why conference tourneys are not taken seriously by top teams?

So you would have to flip then around and cal st might slide into the 1 spot.

Um no, Cal St Fullerton isn't even in the top national seed discussion.

I hate it when people say "as long as LSU is a national seed it doesn't matter." It definitely matters. Would you rather be the 8 seed playing the 1 or the 1 playing the 8?? It's like when a team is making a comeback and the announcers say "well that run doesn't really matter." Hell yeah it matters, that run is kind of important in completing the comeback.

No it really doesn't matter at that point.

First, it's never a guarantee that the national seed even makes it to Omaha so it's all a guess. You never know who will actually be filling that spot in the CWS. Secondly, at that point in getting to Omaha, all the teams there are good, especially the top seeds. The difference in playing a UNC, Oregon, CSF, Oregon State or Florida State is marginal at best and all teams will have a quality ace to throw at you, that much is sure.

Ok, well you can hope to play the top overall seed and I will hope to play whoever is in the 8th spot, but the chances of advancing as one of the top seeds are better.

Vandy has a series win at Oregon and won a midweek game at Louisville. And won every series in conference, going 26-3. These factors seem more important for seeding them #1 than the SEC tournament results. LSU has a great resume and would be the hotter team, but I'd go with Vandy.

Here is how I see it playing out.

For LSU to be a #1 seed:
- Must win SEC Tournament
- Vandy must finish 4th or worse in SEC Tournament (along with LSU winning of tourney)
- UNC must not win ACC tournament

If this plays out I see:
1- LSU
2- Cal St.
3- ACC winner not named UNC)
4- Vandy

For Cal St to be #1 seed:
- LSU, Vandy, UNC all do not win conference tournament.

If all this plays out I see:
1. Cal St.
2. Vandy
3. ACC winner
4. LSU

For Vandy to be #1 seed:
- Finish 3rd or better in SEC tournament

1. Vandy
2. Cal St.
3. ACC winner
4. LSU

For UNC to be #1 seed:
- Win ACC tournament
- Vandy doesn't win SEC tourney

1- UNC
2- LSU/Vandy (whichever wins SEC tourney- if neither then Vandy)
3- Cal St
4- LSU

I don't see any other team being in the running for a #1 seed. Florida State already seems to be starting their post season choke fest in the ACC tourney. Virginia also lost today, but they still have plenty of baseball to play with their pool play crap they have going on.

However, the selection committe has probably already started smoking their heavy doses of crack and no telling what could happen. I see the ACC winner getting as high a national seed as possible, especially if it's a team that did really well during the season (UNC/Virginia/Florida St. - I don't see NC State jumping up into the top 3 or 4.)

Either way there is no way in hell, even with the people selecting high on crack, that LSU is not a national seed. And really they should not fall anywhere below 4-5. If the SEC West continues to dominate this tournament then I think LSU should get some more solid looks for coming out of that division the winner, ahead of Vandy with a better conference record in a weaker eastern division.
