The hits just keep on coming.

Basin Seafood - old Rocky's location. One of the guys was former executive chef at Baru, I'm told. Menu looks decent with some small plates and entrees'. Plus they're doing some boiling - crawfish now but crab in the summer. Anyone tried it?

Amici??? - former Byblos location . . . sign says "Ice House/Coal Fired Pizza". Not open yet but the same group of guys (or some combination thereof involving the Lebanese mafia) involved with Byblos, Salu, etc.

Not tried yet. I need to look at Basin's menu, anyone have it? Amici, is the more exciting of the two. IMO

Possibly. Or just another pizza and beer place.

I've seen them, but haven't been to Basin. Wasn't Basin suppose be the name of the Duke development on the lakefront ? The pizza place will be a much needed addition to Mag. It looks like they still have a ways to go with construction.

It also looks like McClures is shooting for a July 4th opening.

I would prefer another(non Rocky's) average pizzeria, then an average seafood place. That is just my taste preference.

My hunch is that Basin is going for more than average after looking at the menu. Don't let the boiled seafood throw you off. By the way, imo, what is really needed Uptown is a place that does, in fact, serve boiled seafood . . . crabs, shrimp, etc. If you think about it, there's nothing in that part of town.

I hate to sound like I'm too skeptical of Amici, but there seem to be adequate pizza options nearby (at least within a few blocks). Now if Amici is doing something a little out of the ordinary or really good, I'm certainly all for it.

You don't know what your talking about. The area needs a burger joint more than anything and maybe a pho shop. No I agree with you, but if they have FQ tourist prices it's not gonna be worth a damn to me. Maybe it will drive the Big Fishermans prices down.

Um. Big Fisherman is about 150 yards from that spot. Maybe less.

Yes, but their dining area is so small . . .

ETA: I'm talking about something along the lines of Sid-Mars, the Galley or what Frankie and Johnny's should have been.

Just walk it on down to the RDV. Wash it down with a cold beer.

I've been known to do that a few times.

Someone who gives a shite needs to spruce up the Frankie and Johnny's location and make a go of it.

It's a shame the folks who ran that place stopped doing so about 15 years ago. Otherwise, they may still be in business.

I didn't even know they had a dining area. I've never been because they are expensive and I thought take out only.
