Live Music In BR this weekend via Jive Flamingo

Starting today:
LINK
THURSDAY:
Brother Dege at Mud and Water (excellent Lafayette folk/rock/americana)
Hitchhiker w/ Jonathan Tyler and the northern lights at the varsity
FRIDAY:
The Breton Sound!!!! rocks Mud and Water (hot New Orleans rock band just coming off of their first Jazz fest, featuring at least one
LSU music school alum!)
SATURDAY, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday:
Captain Green rocks my face off.
In addition to other music offerings across town, I’d like to point out that three terrific, homegrown, Baton Rouge areas acts will be taking the stage at three of our major venues. I love all three of these acts so much, I have no idea how I’m going to choose which one to see. So, in alphabetical order:
Captain Green with Trailerhounds at Varsity Theater (If you enjoy funk, or jam bands, or life at all, you owe it to yourself to not miss Captain Green. They are terrific instrumentalists. If I were five years younger, I would be their full-time groupie.)
Denton Hatcher and the Soapbox Blues at Mud and Water (this Mississippi and Zachary, LA raised alt-country artist is an awesome guitartist with a knack for songwriting, and his band incorporates diverse sounds including blues and shades of Motown. I catch him every chance I can because he is a LOT OF FUN. And the ladies love him.)
England in 1819 with Mobley at Spanish Moon (See previous post on England in 1819. This ambient, experimental indie band features french horn and keys, has hit its stride on tour, and is coming home for a triumphant show with Mobley, an Austin-based indie rock band that I strive never to miss.)

Hitchhiker is good stuff. Definately an homage to 70's and early 80's rock
Captain Green and Mobley are fantastic as well. Mobley guys are about as nice as they come.

A great weekend for music in BR.
I'll be at Varsity tonight for The Hitchhiker, looking forward to hearing JT&NL for the first time.
Definitely want to check out Mud+Water tomorrow night.

Just got home from Varsity....Hitchhiker and Rosco Bandana killed it.
Rosco Bandana was impressive. Don't skip out on then if you get a chance to see them...it also doesn't hurt that they have some amazingly attractive women on stage.
