Hooked up a couple of soaker hoses today to feed my gardens. Everything went fairly well, just a couple quick question for the OB green thumbs.

1. I have two raised garden beds and each soaker hose I used had a little extra length after pinning them down. Is there anyway to terminate them early?

2. Check out the picture below, I have water leaking from below the faucet knob. Is there an easy fix for this?

1. Any clamp

2. Tighten the gland nut (the one under the handle)

1. Wrap that extra hose back around the bed to get some extra water

2. Don't sweat the small shite

I have the soakers on a timer so it ends up being a ton of water if I were to just let it go.

I'm going to try this when I get home, but is there a possibility that it's going to be stuck due to being a pretty old faucet? In that case do I use a WD-40 like substance to get it unstuck?

Simple fix for this. First, tighten that gland nut like a previous poster said to do. If it still leaks a little, then the packing is worn out and needs to be replaced. Go to the hardware store and buy some faucet packing. Just unscrew the gland nut all the way and repack the faucet around the stem. Then retighten the gland nut.

Your forgetting a critical step, turn off the water first and it will be easier.

I figured the OP had enough sense to know to do this, but if he didn't, he'd find out soon enough.

What do you mean "terminate them early"?

After pinning the hose down around the plants and getting to the end of the garden I still have about 5' of hose.

You should be able to buy a thread hose piece and end cap. I would get that and install it over just sealing it off.

In the future if needed you can string them together end to end no problem.

If your hoses last more than a week without bursting, come back and post the brand here.

I bet you are an accountant. I can't imagine why either one of these two problems would bother you unless you suffered from severe OCD.

But possible solutions.

1. Extend garden 6 ft to capitalize on hose length.

2. Place bucket under faucet to capture water for dog.

Both of these problem sound like wife's jobs.

The extra water from the overage in the hose not so much of an issue. The water coming from the nozzle is another issue, last summer I noticed a ridiculous increase in the cost of my water bill over the summer months when using the digital timer with soaker hose(with the endless drip).

I'll check the brand, but I bought the same brand last year from Sams and it did just fine (no bursting).

The trick to get the hose to last significantly longer is to cover them up. If they are covered the UV degradation and heat of the hose will be negligible.

Pine straw works well in veggie gardens, mulch in flower beds.
