I think if you look at FAs lost too

Panthers signed Chase Blackburn too, didn't they?

They did.

thx for the fair assessment doubledown-
Sounds riskier than the Armstead, Smith, & Brown competition for LT. I'm encouraged.
These two franchises are in very similar spots as to progress and cap management. It will be interesting to see how it plays out- even beyond this season.
Question for doubledown- Payton is entrenched here. It would take several blunderous losing seasons in a row for him to even sniff the hot seat. What about Mike Smith? What if they had a bad season without any major injury excuses? Say 7-9 or worse this year. What would be the buzz? How many consecutive non-playoff years before Smith feels the heat?

the biggest question marks I have is OLine. McClure retiring along with letting a few other guys go could be terrible. Atlanta has been drafting OLine the last few years in preparation but those guys could never crack the starting spots, until now. *IF* they play well, they will compete for the NFC South title. If they play like crap, Matt Ryan could be on crutches before the end of the season.

Yeah there really should be a FA lost list, along with an UDFA list.
Please feel free to post it. I couldn't find a good list of FA losses.
BTW, I love the actual football talk going on in this thread!
And yeah DD, I really liked the Falcon's draft. Quality CBs and a TE project for the year. I think y'alls best move so far is re-signing Moore (
I think the Bucs end up kind of like the Eagles a year or two ago. Bring in a bunch of pricy big names that don't mesh on defense.

The Falcons were lucky that Tony G. decided not to retire. If he hit the road their offense would be in big trouble. Not many players in the NFL can play the way he's played for so long.
It's one thing to have a bad offensive line and a good TE that can get open. It's a nightmare to have a bad offensive line and no go-to TE.

the panthers not being able to do much in free agency will come back to haunt them. They didn't pick up another WR in the draft which I thought they needed. Steve Smith is old and LaFell is just a #2 WR in my eyes.
Greg Olsen is a decent TE but in an expanded role after Shockey left, you would have thought he would have done more.
If we had even a mediocre run defense last year, we would have swept the Panthers. But we had no answer for that QB load option they ran.

In my mind two huge transactions were not mentioned.
1)The loss of Bushrod and the fact that even though he wasn't the best LT, we really don't have an answer for this year.
2) Atlanta resigning Tony Gonzales. After the Steven Jackson pick up I think this was their best move in the off season.
I agree on the draft, I think we killed it.

Jackson will have a 1,200+ rushing year. Their receiving trio is one, if not the best, in the league. Jackson will see so much open space in the box relative to his Rams years. Falcons offense will be loaded and easily one of the best in the league. I see them winning the NFC South but the Saints will move deeper in the playoffs...ya no what I mean?
Best off-season was the Bucs...they just loaded up on quality players that they positionally needed. LOVED the Glennon pick.
Worst off-season was the Panthers

If they don't solidify their o-line they'll have to rely on quick passing and max protect play action.
