One of my favorite comfort foods, squash casserole.
Stew squash and onion, about 1/2 gallon of sliced squash and 1 sweet onion until it is very tender. Drain off the liquid. Season with liberal ammounts of black pepper.
Crush 1 sleeve of Ritz crackers finely.
Put the squash and onion in a casserole dish and stir in the Ritz and a splash (maybe 1/4 cup) of buttermilk until well mixed.
Top with grated extra sharp cheddar cheese. Bake in the oven until hot through and the cheese is melted.
I love this with grilled chicken quarters.

I like corn on the cob or some other type corn dish like maque choux or a souffle. It's one of my sides of choice with bbq. I also like baked bananas with bbq.

Can never go wrong with asparagus. Drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper, bake in oven. Top with freshly grated parm when it comes out the oven. YUM!!
I also second the Crash Hot Potatoes suggestion...orrr do this (saw it on Pinterest and want to try it) :

Shoot, youd be hard pressed to find a side that doesnt work with it. I like the steamer bags at Publix personally.
