Taken from the OT since they made it a craptastic thread.
Have to respect Bourdain's knowledge of food. Great compliment to NOLA.

If you were picking any two cities – one in the U.S. and one overseas – that you would tell someone they absolutely had to eat, what would they be?
Tokyo would probably be the foreign city if I had to eat one city’s food for the rest of my life, every day. It would have to be Tokyo, and I think the majority of chefs you ask that question would answer the same way.
In America, there might be better gastronomic destinations than New Orleans, but there is no place more uniquely wonderful. So I would say New Orleans. With the best restaurants in New York, you’ll find something similar to it in Paris or Copenhagen or Chicago. But there is no place like New Orleans. So it’s a must see city because there’s no explaining it, no describing it. You can’t compare it to anything. So, far and away New Orleans.

Very high praises in his message. It will make some difference on the restaurants bottom lines down the road.

He has a world wide audience. It definitely can't hurt.

Per capita, NOLA is by far the best restaurant city in the world

If we're talking purely per capita, Yountville, CA may quibble.
Nice words from Bourdain, though.

Per capita, for a major city, it would be pretty damn hard to beat. There are some small touristy cities that have nothing but good restaurants with a low number of actual residents....Maybe I took your comment to literal
Anyways, I think it's pretty evident in his NOLA episodes that he's genuinely enjoying the city.

Yep because no one outside of Nola knows about the food scene...

If I'm reading that article and I had considered a NOLA trip, but had never taken one, reading something like that would definitely encourage me to go ahead and take that trip. Will the restaurants be swamped 7 days a week because of it, no. But, like I said, "can't hurt".
Anyways, glad you liked the article.

It's a huge compliment to the city and its culture to have a guy like bourdain make a statement like that. Like him or not, his opinion is respected and heard by many.
I feel the same way and have traveled the us pretty extensively, but my option is inherently biased.

Yeah. Tokyo is my kind of food. I love it. The passion and care for the process is second to none IMO.
