Long story short, I've been offered a gig in the Middle East. Looking at a 2-3 year commitment which would require relocation. Salary is paid tax free.
What are the tax ramifications for a US citizen living abroad? Any good resources for info that explain in laymans terms...?

There are some hurdles to work through, taxes, relocation, schools and safety being among them but its certainly an intriguing opportunity.

I believe you have to spend 330 days outside of the US to qualify. If you do, it is indeed federal income tax free.

Correct. There is a limit though. I believe it is $92,000 this year. You can also include a housing allowance paid ny the employer or yourself in the exclusion. It maxes out around $28k.

First $92k is free, cant spend more than 30 days inside the US during the year.
Your 'income' for tax reporting purposes must include all sources of compensation (housing allowance, car allowance, tuition/school, etc).
