3 movies in. I think I've said "This kid is a vagina" at least 4 times per movie. It's entertainment but I don't see how people go crazy over this. Just my humble opinion.

As this kid grows up, the plots get darker right?

Well that's not going to happen. I rather read game of thrones. Does this not follow the books?

my two biggest problems:

*********spoilers********************

1. By the 5th movie the kid has saved the entire world like 9 times and people consistently treat him like shite and give him no respect at all. Seriously? HE saved the godamn world and killed like the most ultimate evil dude ever and people in the school yard and teachers and stuff act like he's just some dumb kid. Who the hell would mess with him?

2. Dumbeldore is the most manipulative person ever. and uses harry for his own purposes all the time. he sucks.

It misses so many storylines.

The movies blow compared to the books. I read the books last year and watched the movie after each book. I would get so angry at the movies.

You could read the books in a month. Well worth it. Can't truly comment on Harry Potter series without reading the books.

This is what I can't figure out. I still can't figure out what these kids do once they're "educated". Maybe I'm just thinking about this too much.

They also have a pretty bad run with these Dark Arts teachers. They're like 0-3. You think they'd screen a little bit better. How do you hire a werewolf.

No. I just don't have as much free time. I'm in the middle of reading game of thrones.

These are the questions answered in the books. So many subtleties that you miss in the movies. So much more in depth.

Ok. Well will it ruin the books if I watch the movies first?

I would definitely prefer to read the books first. The major storylines will be spoiled for you.

But they'd be enjoyable either way.

Unless you are completely compelled to watch the rest of the movies, I'd wait until you finish off GOT books and start HP.

Yep

The target audience is the same age of the characters. Which made it great that the first book came out when I was about 8, and the last movie came out right after I graduated high school

I don't think so. I refused to read the books, thinking they were childish and stupid, until my younger sister wanted me to go with her to the Half Blood Prince premiere.

While the HBP movie pales in comparison to the book, and makes a lot of changes, it got me to read the series.

I think I started reading them after watching Pheonix. By the 4th book things really got darker. The Deathly Hallows remains one of my top favorite books next to the GoT books.
