Looking for a Grill Thermometers

anyone have any good recommendations for smoking or grilling. Thinking I need 2 probes, one for grate and one for meat. Most I see only go up to 392 degree. might be a dumb question but what do you do when you are trying to get the grill up to high heat?? i hear most thermometers on the grill are off by 10% which seems like a big margin of error.

I use iGrill. I bought the second probe for it. It pairs up with your iPhone using Bluetooth so need to walk out side to check the temp. I'm an engineering nerd so I like how it graphs the temp.

i like the maverick et 732 if you're talking about using something for remote monitoring while smoking/grilling. i've also got a thermopen but it's hardly used to be honest.

I have a Thermopen infrared model with thermocouple for a probe. Cost about a hundred bucks, but it does everything in one unit.

i have this on order for the meat, but im guessing i need something to keep track of the grate as well. dont really need something wireless or sending a signal just want to accurately know the temperature
is the dial on the grill really as shitty as described? never really worried about temp while grilling, just got it hot and threw the meat on.
thinking of sending this one back and just going with the 732.

this is the one i've got (except in black--just pulled this pic off the web).
i think it's fantastic. one probe goes in the meat and the other has a clip that sits just above the grate.

yeah, i find the grill thermometer on the hood of most grills to run higher than the grate temp due to heat rising.

Bought the 732, guess I'll return the other one

The maverick is a good purchase. I might keep the other one as well. I use my maverick with dual probes nearly every time I cook, but I also keep a second probe thermometer handy for when I'm smoking multiple things at once that I want to cook to different temperatures.

You'll like the wireless a lot more than you think. It's great for long cooks. I love being able to set the transmitter on my desk and get some work done and still knowing exactly what's happening on the grill.

Yes. You'll see a pretty big difference in the temp your probe reads on the grate and the thermometer on the hood. Might not be as big of a deal when your just grilling, but definitely important when smoking.
