Southern California has targeted Florida Gulf Coast Coach Andy Enfield as its top candidate, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The deal is not completed, but Enfield and USC have held discussions and a deal is expected to be completed soon.

Enfield led FGCU to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament last week, a charmed run of fearless play that captured the nation for a week. Enfield became the biggest story in college basketball, as everything in his back story from his super model wife to his niche as a shooting specialist captivated America. The tournament appearance was the first ever for FGCU, who only began competing in Division I athletics in 2011. Enfield has amassed a 41-28 record at FGCU, including one Atlantic Sun Tournament championship in 2013.

eh.....I'm always wary of hiring the cinderella coach. Hot name now, but winning 2 games in a very watered down tournament isn't all that large of a sample size.

could end up being a better hire than UCLA's though so we'll see

He was an NBA assistant also so the guy knows what he's doing. A place like USC is probably a good fit

He's obviously just trying to find a new model wife in LA.

He fits the celebrity image that they need. And he's got enough money already so that location relative to cost of living won't be an issue for him.

What I saw in FGCU wasn't a typical Cinderella-run. I saw a system that seemed to work very well, and even better with some talent.

I dont know how much coaching really played into their two wins. Fgcu was pretty much just a great streetball team from what i saw in the two games. I guess you have to give the guy credit for letting the athletes play though.

His wife does but he is more Opie from Mayberry than Hollywood polish of Pat Riley.

When you look at his résumé outside of the 2 NCAA games, it is not very impressive.

41-28 and didn't even win the conference this year.

They now have the more exciting hire in L.A.

Flavor of the week never amounts to anything

USC will continue to be mediocre, nothing to see here

This post is absolutely ridiculous. Streetball doesn't win high school playoff games most of the time let alone NCAA tourney games.

It's all about the splash out there.

I'll be dissapointed if true. He'll be churned out of USC and into a footnote round about 5 years. Dunk City may never be heard from again.

People don't play matchup zones on defense in streetball/rec ball or whatever you want to call it.

Don't think FGCU will be relevant again.
