Where do you go about finding which bands are playing shows near you?

Is there a good website where you can put in your location and some of you favorite bands and they'll notify you when someone's coming to town?

I haven't gone to many shows recently, but I'm moving to a big city where there should be tons of great bands coming through, and I have no idea how to find out what groups are playing the city, and when (other than searching the Internet for every damn group I like to see if they're touring and where they're going).

Make an account with live nation and ticket master. They send emails with concert lists all the time

Holy crap that app is awesome.

Is it accurate? I was just on pollstar looking in the same location and didn't see a bunch of those shows...

Pollstar won't list a lot of unsigned bands

I've always found it to be very accurate. It's a great app, and a good way to find out about shows far enough in advance to get tickets, ask off work, etc.

I like songkick over bands in town. I used BiT over a year ago and they did some upgrade that really screwed with my saved artists. I haven't had a problem with songkick yet.

eta: jambase is awesome if you want to see most local venues shows for that night.

It would be pretty awesome if we could compile those sites into a stickied "Upcoming Shows" thread. I'm not going to man that beast, though.

Find the best music venues near you and get on their mailing list.

For example, if you live near DC and aren't on the 930 club mailing list, then you've gone full retard.
