frick fricking frick frick...

So this morning, I see a god damned ant crawling on my QNIX IPS. I try to flick it away. I thought I missed. I aggressively smash it. It dies a gruesome death. But I can't wipe it away, because it's not on my panel. It's fricking IN my panel.

Pretty much dead center of my screen too. No way I can work 10+ hours a day with that fricker staring me in the face.

I'm going to attempt some surgery later tonight, but this is the plain glossy version -- not the tempered glass -- and I'm guessing I'll have to somehow separate the LCD diffuser. Never attempted that before. So in the event I frick things up worse, who's got a lovely Korean WQHD to sell me?

Just think, if you'd left him alone he'd probably be gone by now

Yep. I could've just been patient, turned off the monitor, and let him die/leave.

I just took it apart, lifted the glass from the diffuser, wiped the ant off, reassembled, and all is still working. But, I didn't get the ant off thoroughly, so I still see 2 tiny specks.

Guess I'll have to go back later tonight and do it again more thoroughly.

EDIT: And done. There's maybe one pixel of it left, but I give up. I can't assess how good of a job I did until I reassemble and reconnect the monitor, so I'm sick of taking it apart now, and every second I have the glass separated from the diffuser (or whatever you call it), I run the risk of having another annoying speck of something find its way in there.

The inside of panels look pretty ghetto, with all the tape and screws and plastic flaps.

Microcenter has a Pentium G3258 and MSI Z97 board bundle for $99.

This is tempting because why not.

Question for you guys. Why buy a pc monitor over an HDTV for entertainment? 1080p HDTV at 30 plus inches is cheaper than a monitor of similar size.

How? The refresh rate and resolution are the same. And you can fix input the input lag

For general entertainment, there's not much difference. For gaming, you need to pay close attention to input lag and response times, but most of them have a "game" mode for that.

Biggest problem with TV being used as a monitor is that you'll need to worry about view distance. 30" 1080p is shitty for a desk unless you can position your face 4+ feet away from the monitor at all times. 27" is pretty much max size for a 1080p display in a desk-and-chair arrangement.

EDIT: The "advantages" of monitors vs TVs is what they can offer, if you're looking for it and are willing to pay for it (IPS/PLS panels, higher res/pixel density) -- but if you're comparing run-of-the-mill 60Hz 1080p monitor to run-of-the-mill 60hz 1080p TV, and you're just watching videos and browsing, you probably won't see the difference or care. Just the view distance/size can be an issue. Wouldn't do a 30-inch 1080p on a desk, personally.

There's not 1440p TVs or true 120hz Tvs. The only TVs that are out that have a higher definition than 1080p are the 4k ones and the only ones that have a solid image quality cost well over $2000. The 120hz Tvs use motion interpolation, which interprets what frames might be between the ones that would be normally displayed. It gives it that soap opera smoothness effect. It's a software function, whereas 120+hz monitors actually update and display that many frames in per second.

120hz is nothing of importance to me. I can game on 60 hz and not know the difference. Same goes for 1440 p. I'm just looking for a cheaper but similar alternative. My rig is already going to be upward of 1500 and I really don't need to break the bank more

Why would you spend $1500 and get a crappy monitor?

Depends on the style of games you play. If you play FPS's at all, you would notice a huge difference.

You would notice a difference with every type of game.

Maybe if my eyes are glued to the screen. I am starting to think I might as well get an elite monitor if I buy a graphics card like a 780 Ti

Oh jesus, no do not get an HD TV for that caliber of a PC. 1440p or better. You WILL, without a doubt, notice the difference in resolution.
