Guys, please give me some direction

I'm a sophomore at lsu. Started out in engineering and got through the physics, statics, calcs, and all the weedout classes, then got to the actual petroleum classes and realized that i didn't want to do that for the rest of my life. Switched to Econ and I hate it too. I just have no idea what I want to do with my life and don't know what to do involving school. All of my hobbies and interests are things that you can't make a lot of money with.
What is a good all-around degree to pursue? I've heard management, but I don't really want to be a zombie through the rest of college and would like more of a challenge. I can't see that being a very marketable degree either. My dad has a law firm in lafayette so law school is always an option, but i can't really see myself doing that either.
Would it be stupid of me to take a semester off and work full time just so I can try and get an idea of which direction to go? Don't know what to do and I'm just not happy where I am right now. I'm currently assistant manager at the best sports complex in Lafayette and am next in line for General Manager if the owner's son leaves (which he probably is) so I'd already have a full time job lined up
Sorry for the long post, but I'm on adderall and I'm talkative. I lurk here a lot and respect what yall do so I figured this would be a good place to inquire. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You took economics. Why not finance? You like talking about money and the market?

Yes. My dad teaches Austrian Economics on the side so I've got a pretty solid foundation from his talking about it growing up.
Just feels like everyone and their mom has a finance degree
I will look into it.

Finance is really what you make out of it. If you really like it and can make at least a 3.0 then the sky is is the limit.
I'm graduating in it in May but I'm stupid with a <3.0 and hated it.
I'm also jobless at this point

I would follow thru with a major that interests you and go to law school. You can ALWAYS do something else but you only get the chance at law school once. Usually lifes other events won't allow you to drop everything and go back to law school.
Do it now and your financial future is pretty much a lock with your dad being in position to make you a successful lawyer.
Don;t let your being their kids stop you from being like your parents. You said you shy away from finance just because your mom has that degree. I know doctors that majored in finance as well. Seems like a natural avenue for you to pursue for the immediate future.

You said you made it to basically a Junior as PetE... what do you not like about it? You pretty much have the base to go into any technical degree you want.
You seem to be at the money vs happiness crossroad.

Get your engineering degree. It gets you in the door of a lot of oil companies and then you can do many other jobs. The pay and security are well worth it.

Interesting.
After my freshman year at LSU, I almost switched out of petroleum engineering. Engineering just didn't seem like my thing, so I was going to switch to economics for my sophomore year (wanted something more abstract than finance).
The petroleum engineering internship was great and way more interesting than the freshman petroleum classes, so I ended up staying in petroleum and have really enjoyed my career. It is more intuitive and practical than the other engineering disciplines (at least to my brain) and incorporates financial analysis.

Now that I think about it, go with engineering. Maybe pick a different specialty?
That is where the big bucks are (if you care about shite like that) I know I do haha

Oilfield is something I find really cool, and I'd totally be fine working in it, just not as an engineer. Just wasn't my thing Some kind of business position, perhaps.
Engineering just didn't get me off like I thought it would
And yes, I am at the money vs happiness crossroad

I think this is EXACTLY what you should do ...there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing that and it will help you figure out what you want to do ...I wish it were more socially acceptable to do just that between high school and college... Work in an office, and then do some sort of field/road work too....take your time

Don't take your time. The quicker you graduate, the quicker you go to law school or make money.
Do some research on finance. If you like brain stimulation like me, do debate or speech persuasion. My friend does it and we talk for hours on politics, economics, finances, theology, apologetics, history, etc.

I don't know a single person who said "damn I wish I didn't waste my time on an engineering degree."

I started in Pete as well, got two years in and thought it wasn't for me. Switched to health and sciences planning on going to nursing school after. Got 20 hours away from that degree, realized I'd made a terrible choice, and made the calculated decision to go back to the college of engineering, but this time as a civil. I enjoyed my courses much more and graduated. Spent 8 years in undergrad, and have loans to show for it, but I am very happy with my decision. Perhaps a change in discipline is all you need.
