if you have a problem with alcohol, you don't buy a bunch of beer and just "have the self-discipline" to not drink it. you keep the beer out of the house. if you have a problem being faithful, you don't go out dancing with a bunch of skanks and just "have the discipline" to keep your hands off. you go drinking with your guy friends, or play poker. or go to the movies. he's making the right decision and he's being honest with himself. if he's around all the thug friends he grew up with, he's going to have a real hard time staying out of trouble. smart move by him.

One thing that pisses me off more than anything is when people call weed dope. Seriously, you ronald reagan's son? I like his statement. He's done much much better in Florida training than he was in BR. There really isn't a great support of people around him when he's down here, so if he feels more comfortable that he's heading in a right path away from here, then let him be. More power to him, that actually tells me how strong willed he is, that he does want to do right. You are forgetting his past; he isn't everybody.

That's my point...I have been to New Orleans many times and didn't go down Bourbon Street. It doesn't matter where you live, trouble is right around the corner. If he is focused on getting clean, it shouldn't matter if he lives in New Orleans. He can still avoid those temptations by staying home and not associating in those environments.

I appreciate his attempts to better his life, but the ultimate problems he has created on based on the decisions he made. He can better his life by resisting outside influences and temptations, not simply avoiding them.

The video clip is on nflnetwork.com, under the NFL AM section, if anyone who is not technologically challenged like I am wants to link it...! Hope he makes a team and stays out of trouble -

If he's in NOLA it's gonna be very difficult for him to tell all his old friends to f-off, or ignore all their phone calls, calling him a traitor, etc etc etc. He knows his limits. If he doesn't have that group of friends that he grew up with in another city, he won't necessarily make another group of thug friends. But in NOLA they will always be there.

why do you think so many kids join the military? this guy needs to be away from nola and all the baggage that nola brings. it was an honest answer and he is being truthful to himself. calling him stupid and not walking in the man's shoes is, in itself, kinda stupid.

I get what you're saying...it takes a strong person to turn your back on that lifestyle if that is how he grew up. I'm sure he will have those same thug friends trying to follow him wherever he goes with their hand out, but that's just the nature of the beast. Bottom line, I enjoy watching the kid play and wish him the best. My point is, if he is truly committed to staying out of trouble, the choice is his alone, regardless of where he goes.

You forgot to add that you get to have your life put under a microscope, and have the pressure of an entire fan base put on your back. If you make even the slightest mistake you get talked about by the national media. Some kids can stay humble and handle this pressure, but many cannot.

Too bad one of the greatest players in LSU football history could not finish his career here. Get it together Mathieu. Real tiger fans are behind you

How do you beat temptation? Remove yourself from situations where you have potential to be tempted. Don't even go there... Don't make it difficult on yourself. You'll be tempted when you least expect it, so why set yourself up? As much as love to see him suit up in the Black & Gold, I'd rather see him get a good foundation somewhere else, then finish his career in NO. Good luck badger!!! All this BS about a substance that, in reality, is better for you than cigs or alcohol. Some politicians (the finest citizens around) back in the day wrote something on a piece of paper and now its a no no. More "protect the people from themselves" BS. Its a f*cking joke IMO. Flipside-you do the crime, you deal w/ consequences. He did have plenty of chances...but I will pull for him & wish him (or any other athlete that suits up for LSU) the best no matter what.

he'll probably end up at either the patriots or the 49ers. Both teams have coaches who know how to handle players and vets that will keep young ones in line and both know how to find good deals. Mathieu in the 4th round is a great gamble.

Yeah, see the first thing I do after someone's been out of AA for 8 months is hire him to be a sommelier at a local restaurant. I mean, he doesn't actually DRINK the wine. He only tastes it.
