Is there something special our staff won't deal with in recruits?

First off, this isn't a flame thread against Miles or any of the other LSU coaching staff. It's just a question.

It seems that we've stopped recruiting a couple of high-quality athletes (Tim Williams, Kain Daub, etc.) for unknown reasons. These guys make decent grades and don't get into trouble too often. Plus, other schools keep recruiting them so I'm curious to know why we stopped in the first place. Is there a certain personality trait that the coaches see in these guys that they just don't want to deal with? Also, if anyone has any inside info, that would be much appreciated as always

The staff sometimes avoids prima donnas. I doubt that's what it is, though. When a staff suddenly withdraws, I always suspect that the recruit asked for a little something extra. I have no information that indicates that this happened with either of the guys you mentioned, but it seems like the most logical red flag which would result in completely dropping contact.

A lot of those guys do have their hands out. Just ask some of the bartenders at Bogies why we didn't get the #1 player in the country & O.Miss did. He ran his mouth way too much. And he is far from being the only player with a hand out.

They probably do it for the same reason a guy chases a hot girl till he finds out she has the clap or something. You get to know the kid and find out something you don't like.

This is my guess as well. Thank goodness the staff is being careful.

This.....I'd rather miss on a recruit than take a liability and end up like USC. Losing schollys and wins ain't worth it.

If that ain't a reliable source, I don't know what is.

Don't you read this board? They aren't that good. They are overrated. They are a headcase. We don't want to deal with thier parents. We want kids who want to be at LSU.

Think I covered them all.

Every school has different recruiting strategies, so to answer your question...I have no idea. Maybe they were only looking to sign a certain number of players at a position and reached their quota. Maybe the recruit asked for something we couldn't give him. Maybe it's a character issue. Maybe he doesn't fit the system. Some schools will shy away from players that say they will jump ship as soon as they are draft eligible.

I don't know LSU's recruiting strategy, but looking at the classes they consistently produce...I trust their judgment.

If you kept up with this board you would realize Tim Williams was not staying home. He looked everywhere he could to find a spot out of town. He even made some illusions to this in his interviews. Does this make him a bad guy - no. He did however attend unofficial at every LSU home game... There comes a time when you get the message to move on.

Kain Daub? Some kind of kryptonite thing going on here. Had trouble in his first HS team last year and moved over to another team at start or right after season start... Since then LSU has kept their distance.

What pissed me off with Williams was the instant bump he got in recruiting rankings when he committed to Bama. ESPN reported him as the top ranked player in LA when he announced. He never was ranked that high in LA and by end of season was around 10-11...

That's actually the exact answer I was looking for. All I saw on tigerdroppings about Tim Williams was that, at first, it seemed like LSU would be his final destination. Then the staff backed off on him, then sort of came back on him again. I had no idea he was looking elsewhere the whole time and that he had attended every LSU home game. What you said though makes sense. And what Kain Daub trouble are you referring to?

I'm pretty sure he dropped on both Rivals and 247 in the final rankings after his commitment.

Well if the staff avoids prima donnas and players who get into trouble they haven't been very successful in doing so the last few years.

When posters speak of a recruit asking for "something extra", they are referring to something other than casino chips, right?
