I have a week off of work end of April or early may and looking to make a drive to the mountains for some relaxation. What are some spots y'all recommend? I haven't been since childhood so pretty clueless. I hear allot about hot springs and its only 6-7 hrs away, good stuff or do I need to go further north?

Lake Ouachita is awesome. Especially if you got the funds to rent one of those houseboats and stay on the lake for a week. We used to do that for the week of 4th of july. Always had a blast.

Trying to keep it low cost if possible. Thinking of a little cabin in a state park of something.

Buffalo Point Concessions
2261 Hwy 268 E Yellville, AR 72687
(870) 449-6206
Went last year with the SO and her family. Had a great time. Had a cabin walking distance from lots of hiking trails and about 10min driving distance to Buffalo River rafting. Nice beaches with white sands to sit during the day. Can get out of the sun with the trees near the banks. Quiet. Lots of wildlife.

If you want an underrated spot with huge camping areas, try Shady Lake. It's about 3 hrs north of Shreveport. Some of the camping spots, you literally can't see your neighbor.
Went there with regularity when I lived down there and it was my favorite spot by far. Most folks go to Albert Pike, not far away...but Shady Lake is the unheralded gem of the region. Nice lake, great stream, mountains, not far from Little Mo. Falls...
Runners up
Lake Greeson
Petit Jean
DeGray
Blanchard Springs Caverns is pretty cool, near Mountain Home.

Degray Lake is all you need to know. Stay at either the state park lodge or at iron mountain. Both places are very nice and easy to get too. Hot springs is about 15 miles away. Magic springs is also close if you have kiddos. My in-laws from LA love coming up to that area.

Wilehelmina State Park. It's on top of a mountain.

My vote is for either rooster poot or toad suck.

It's pretty close to Shady Lake/Albert Pike/Bard Springs.

Planning the same. We're either going to hit the Ozarks or the Ouachitas and try to get at least one fly fishing trip in too.

Bump this thread if you find more places, I'm also interested in doing some fishing while up there.

We went a bunch in middle school as boyscouts in the Ouachita's so we'll probably just do one of those trails, most likely a long 2 day backpacking trip. Most of the trails we hiked are just NW of Mena. We're going to fly fish the Little Missouri at some point too, but I'm not sure if we're going to float or wade.

Albert Pike for the closest cool place to go...
Mountain Home area for legit trout fishing, and beautiful lake and river scenery. Tons of cabins to rent in the area...
