He's also right that the punishment had more to do with lying and covering things up than the bounties themselves. This has all been known from the beginning.

what evidence do you have that the saints lied and covered up things after the fact? The NFL stopped the allegations against the players and focuses on just the 2009 season

quote:

People assumed because Tagliabue dropped the player punishments, this meant they were innocent. That's just not what happened at all.

while true, Tags was a completely biased source on this matter. It wasn't like he was a neutral arbitrator

quote:

Pretty sure just the act of paying players under the table is in itself illegal. That's another thing some people don't get. And I know it wasn't pay for injury

not sure what we are arguing about then. While pay for performance may be illegal, that is not why the Saints go bent over. Many teams have ran pay for performance systems, and Tags actually defended pay for performances not too long ago

He vacated the punishments because when he was the commish he ok'd pay for performance programs under as long as the players put in their own money and some other stipulations. I can't remember it all, but you can find the old espn story on youtube.

Is this what you are talking about Paddy?

The reports, now nearly 16 years old, include players from other teams discussing similar pools climbing into the thousands of dollars. In one report by ESPN, Troy Vincent, then a defensive back with Philadelphia, discusses a similar player-funded incentive program run by Eagles players.

Vincent now works for the NFL as a vice president overseeing player engagement.

In the reports, an NFL spokesman is quoted as saying the incentive programs are permitted as long as players use their own money and the amounts players pledge are not exorbitant.

And while we are talking about the Packers running a bounty program: LINK

It's too bad that the Saints aren't one of the league favorites.

If you see everybody across the street stopping looking down and talking to a steamy pile of shite why would you cross the street and do the same?

I have all this knowledge of the story and I don't get to use it much, at least lately.

It's amazing how bozos like him keep spewing wrong info. Do your job pat and report the facts of the case, not long debunked trash put out by the NFL office.

I guess this answered my question. Anybody who would call someone a pile of shite over something like this seriously needs to take a hard look at their life.

F#cking internet tough guy lol. I thought I handled myself in a pretty good natured manner considering all the shite being said about me in this thread. But this goatmilker is a straight d-bag. Get a life dude. There are worse things in life than "bountygate".

None of this is directed at you Paddy.

Yep, cause one guy on a Saints message board(no bias there) is more informed than people like Pat Yasinskas and every other media outlet that covered this. The Saints screwed up. Goodell overreacted. Get over it.

Not saying Paddy is wrong by the way. Just making a point.

But, as I wrote on the day this all started, the Saints have no one to blame but themselves. Their arrogance was their downfall. If they had simply stopped the bounty program the minute the NFL told them to, we never would have heard about it. Instead, the Saints denied it and kept right on doing it and it all caught up to them.

This is one of the great misinformations about the bounty case. I guess it's technically true that the saints were told to stop but people hear this and assume goodell told Payton, loomis, or benson to stop. But what actually happened was a 30 second phone call from a mid-level league employee and nobody knows for sure what he said. Wether it was cut it out, or we think this is going on; if it is stop. Also, if the saints were told to stop doing something they weren't doing, how can they stop doing it?

ESPN, not exactly a place of journalistic integrity (REMEMBER THE 5), is in bed with the NFL. They arent going to rock the boat of their cash cow. Why anyone would expect the company to offer anything other than the NFL line is beyond me.

That's true. People hear things said by ESPN or the NFL and they immediately accept it as fact before they ever actually see any facts. People just can't think for themselves anymore. And it doesn't help that the journalistic integrity of almost all American media, especially ESPN, is in a free fall.
