Triple Plays

How many triple plays have you witnessed, live, in your lifetime? I witnessed my first last night. West Monroe was playing St. Amant and SA had runners on first and second. The ball was hit up the middle, short stop side. The SS fielded it, flipped it over his shoulder to the 2nd baseman who then fired it to first for the double play. The runner on second tried to score and the 1st baseman threw him out at home. It was an unconventional 6-4-3-2 triple play but a triple play nontheless. Pretty cool stuff!!! BTW, WM won 2-0.

Most overrated play in sports.

Hit into one in gym class when I was in high school. Runners on first and second. I hit a line drive toward left field. The third baseman jumped up and tipped it, then caught it. They nailed both runners

It is mostly luck, not skill.

LSU got one in a regional game vs Oklahoma back in the 90's at the Box. Runners at 1st and 2nd...Oklahoma batter hits a grounder to Trey McClure at 3rd...he was close enough to the bag that he touched 3rd...then threw to second...then the second baseman threw to 1st for the triple play. The runner at 1st was really safe by a step and a half, but that isn't how history recorded it!

I've been apart of a triple play before

Saw an unassisted triple play at a juco game one time. Runners on first and second, hit and run, line drive to the 2nd base side of the shortstop. Caught the ball, stepped on the bag, tagged the runner coming from first.

I had an unassisted triple play when I was 8. Bases were loaded and I was playing 3rd. Caught a line drive, touched third base where the runner didn't tag, then tagged out the guy heading to third because he didn't understand the tagging concept either

Only one for me .... Tulane vs. Cal St Fullerton ... Fullerton had guys on first and second, batter hit a hard one hopper to third baseman. Touched his bag and it was just a routine double play from there ...

My high school team turned 3 in my high school career

I had played softball for many years and had never seen one. Then in one week's time, was involved in two of them. Both were carbon copies, guys on 1st and 2nd, shot to 3rd baseman. He stepped on 3rd, then on to 2nd and 1st. One was against us, the next was turned by my team. Haven't been involved in one since.
