According to Jason Cole, Saints working on Will Smith restructure

Jason Cole?@JasonColeYahoo Saints are working on a restructured deal for DE Will Smith. Not done, but progressing.
Thoughts on this? Is a cheaper Smith better than just releasing him out right?

And another tweet regarding an LSU prospect. Not sure WTF is up with this:

Unless we're negotiating him down to the cap hit we'd take by outright cutting him, I don't want no parts of him. Even then I think it's a waste of time, but I guess everyone needs depth. I just want to really feel like we're trying something different and it's hard to feel that way with the same players.

If that's true, that is chicken shite by LSU. Yes we all saw that Sam was on the list for not practicing or showing up on time, etc. But on the field, Sam always played hard and gave LSU a lot. I'm sure Sam could say a lot of bad shite about the LSU coaching. I know it wouldn't be too difficult considering players recently have.
But why try to hurt the man's chances at professional life beyond LSU?

Will Smith is a good professional football player.
Value depends on what your paying him.
Hope he stays and competes for a roster spot.
We don't have much to pay him.

While it is a bit surprising, I guess the coaches have to be honest with the NFL scouts.

Backup DE? I don't mind him staying as long as they don't keep starting him just cause he's a vet and as long as the restructure is better for the cap than cutting him.

This is a form of espionage IMO
Who wants to bet that Dan Hope is linked to another SEC school that would like to slow LSU's recruiting?
Think about it why would LSU not want Big Sam to go high in the draft...........the notion is rantarded

I'm on board with this logic. It seems Loomis is digging a hole we won't get out of. Brought in 3 FAs last year with backloaded contracts and rolling money forward on a guy like Smith is just crazy. Sometimes it's just better to take your arse kicking and move on.

need the belichick method. when it's obvious he can't produce, it's time to say bye. even if it means it's a long tenured player

Backup DE? I mean he's horrible against the run and that's really the main duty of a DE in the 34. I just think it's a waste. I'd rather a vet min contract for a guy who knows the 34 instead if just trying to keep him around.

He is horrible against the run when he goes wide on his pass rush. He is a big, strong guy with a really good bull rush. His strength and bull rush could help him fit in the 3-4. His 2 best assets actually do fit in this defense. He's not a great pure pass rusher anymore.

I would take the Sonic Sam "comments" with a grain of salt. Keep in mind that you can trust NO ONE around this time. Don't think for one second a team wouldn't throw that type of talk around hoping to get Sam to fall to their team. Sam M is a first round talent and built for the big leagues now.

I hope you don't really believe this.

This happens every year. NFL coaches and scouts talk to college coaches about their players. The college coaches have to answer honestly, or they will hurt all of their future players' chances of getting drafted.
The solution is for current players who have NFL aspirations to display a good work ethic and attitude in college.

We do that already. That's why Patrick is gone and others will follow.
The problem in this case is fan perception. Smith can still produce, despite what a few retard fans think.

I have heard in the past in addition to his no shows and lack of effort he is a terrible locker room guy and really arrogant. Many players who have come from there who have said no one likes him including the coaches due t work ethic, attitude, and overall personality.
