Python-I went to the same HS as you. I can remember Fess coming back to school to talk to us at basketball practice. Did Mark Dearman play the same time as you?

Well said Choctaw and someone else hit the nail on the head when they said sarcastically "yeah...cause America is so much more oppressive than mekka" Islam is way the frick more oppressive than anything in this world for him to say America is oppressive is just pure ignorant and hypocritical... lets go mutilate some women

Mark was a year ahead of me. Fess was a Freshman, I was a Sophomore and Mark was a Junior. I believe that's right. I was the skinny white boy with the tight shorts and high tube socks. I'm sure you remember me.

I enjoyed his play at LSU. But after that, just as he has a right to his beliefs I have a right to mine- he sucks as an American and could have stayed oversees for all I care. If he went anywhere else besides LSU all the rantards would not be so "open minded"

Not sure how anyone who watched that team play could think Shaq was more valuable or a better college player than CJ
Shaq was just dominant....and i'm pretty sure won MVP. like one coach said (can't remember who)...there's never been a player that you had to completely change your entire gameplan for when you were up against him. great era in the PMAC LINK

Not to excuse the lack of support, but if Chris Jackson 2.0 showed up on campus, people would show up to watch him.

No doubt Shaq was a dominant big man as as athletic a player as there's ever been. But even in this clip you see how limited his game was. You had a nice turn around short shot, an incredible one handed dunk on a rebound, and a missed hook. I realize we're comparing apples to oranges, but I think when you see CJ's complete game versus Shaq he comes out on top. I also think CJ's post LSU career and actions are clouding just how fricking incredible the guy was while at LSU... CJ versus UT CJ Freshman year I feel badly for the younger fans here who didn't see CJ live, in the same way some older guys must feel for guys like me that never saw Pete. Not saying that's you, Choctaw...just that there's got to be a bunch of guys that never saw him play and all they have are these shitty quality YouTube videos.

you mention complete game but completely dismiss the defensive side of the ball

i saw both of them play several times. CJ was amazing...great ball control and shooter. but nobody had seen anything like Shaq before. sure...there were other great centers...but Shaq was different. LINK

I love that shirt. I remember being in 1st grade and my dad took me to the LSU vs Notre Dame basketball game in the Superdome. Got to see Chris Jackson and Shaq.

The high school games between CJ and Litterial Green, when CJ was at Gulfport and Green was at Moss Point, were unreal. Green actually out scored CJ, and led the nation his senior year. They put on a show every game!

I didn't dismiss it, I just didn't highlight it. CJ was a solid defensive player in college as evidenced by the lightning fast steals you can see in highlight reels. But, like Pete, his role wasn't one of a defensive stopper. Shaq on the other hand WAS Mr. Defense, especially while at LSU.
quote:
but nobody had seen anything like Shaq before.
I'd largely agree with that but state again that while dominant he did so almost entirely based on his size and strength. Most of his offensive game was spent with his back to the basket when he wasn't putting back rebounds for dunks. That in NO WAY diminishes how exciting he was to watch...but he was exceptional at a handful of things whereas CJ was far more complete a player.
quote:
.there were other great centers...but Shaq was different.
Shaq was much more like Wilt in that his physical size was so much more than any contemporary to handle that it was hard to gauge how talented he was versus how much his sheer size and strength left opposing players in a position where they could simply not guard him. And just to reiterate again...I love Shaq both as a player and as a continuing representative of LSU. The fact that I find CJ to have been a better player and all around more exciting is not in any way a shot at Shaq. In my mind's eye, when I think basketball I think CJ's wicked cross over then pull up jumper from behind the three point arc in someone grill all in one silky smooth motion and hitting nothing but net. His play is and was everything I found beautiful about the game.

"All he did was sit during the National Anthem, and explained that he felt uncomfortable giving allegiance to anyone but God" I can symphathise with this as I feel the same way about pledging allegance to a country filled with enough IDIOTS to reelect a president who has demonstrated his anti-americanism by usurping the constitution anytime it does not suit his desires. "He also said America had a history of tyranny and oppression. Is that really an incorrect statement?" To a certain degree, yes, as has all of the rest of the world. However, what America has done for liberation and freedom far outways it's indescretions. "You may disagree with his convictions, but I doubt you have the strength he did to stand by them with what was at stake, both publicly and financially." Kuddos to him for that, because he sacrificed a lot, but he had to know it was going to cost him. All of that aside, That Kid could shoot the lights out of it!!!

I remember watching CJ, Shaq and C.Ceasar walk in to the Iowa gym to watch the jamboree/tourney. We had no idea how good they were at the time.
