so 3 sophomores is not young?

Maybe if they never played, but all these guys have went through trial-by-fie for a whole freaking year in the toughest conference going against literally some of the best offenses in the nation in Ole Miss, AtM, Alabama, Clemson. Now they go over what they did, learn from their mistakes and come out playing better.

People keep thinking we had seasoned vets littering the field. We played a lot of freshmen in the secondary and they performed decent considering MOST OF THEM WERE FRESHMAN.

Ronald Martin is a better coverage safety than Reid imo.

both mills and collins have to grow up and continue to develop immediately. There were times last year where they were both just lost

I thought they both played extremely well last year. Mills even got named to the Freshman All American Team.

So that basically leaves our dline. Freak, rascoe, Danielle, Jordan, macklin, ferguson, Thomas plus any new recruits like Herron or beckwith.

Yeah that's the weak link right there. We have talent but most of the talented players are young and lack experience. Rasco has the most but that's just as a backup. You have to admit, it doesn't look that great on paper.

You forgetting about Freak?

Ego has more experience as well.

For the most part, but he kinda fell apart as some critical junctures - like with the screen pass to Yeldon or attempting to cover DeAndre Hopkins (none of our CBs could cover that guy).

Oh yeah, I should have clarified - we will be fine at DT. DE is the weak link.

I like the way you conveniently left out the part when he played us AT HOME and did not a damn thing against us.

people act as if saying our secondary is young means that they suck. they don't, but they were susceptible/vulnerable at many points last year. I get that Mills made Freshman All-American team, that's fine and dandy, but when you make every start your freshman year, you're going to make that team. He outplayed Simon at points last year, and at other points, played like a freshman...and that's to be expected. All I'm saying is, continue to develop...quick...for both Jalens.

Our supposed question mark (DL) has to be able to help out that secondary by getting a good enough push consistently to disrupt any passing game.

Hmmmm. Doesn't that also mean that there are too many what-if factors to say we'll be worse?

florida is going to be better. How exactly? They lose their only offensive weapon in Gillislee and still don't have a quarterback

The quarterback they had last year (and will have again this year) is better than any we've had since 2007.

quote:

Offense We'll have Hill and Blue, and an experienced QB. We'll be adding Dural, Brazil, D. Smith and hopefully Leslie into the fold, plus returners Landry and Beckham(plenty options). Also we have a OC coach that excels at using and developing passing skills with RBs and TEs.

How many times have we heard this, or essentially this? I do think we'll be better, but how much better? I agree with the poster above that we have to assume the offense won't change a lot until it changes a lot.

As for the defense, it's hard to understand how we can lose so much from our worst defense since 2008 and somehow be great. Better than last year? Sure, maybe. It would be hard not to be. But a real LSU defense that we can depend on to carry us to a championship with a mediocre offense (improved over last year's horrible offense) and unproven special teams? That's hard to see at this point.

It's not as gloomy as people think.

Depends which people you're talking about. It's a hell of a lot gloomier than some people think, and not as gloomy as some others think. I think 9-3 is probable, 10-2 is possible and anything outside of that (in either direction) would be a real surprise.

Yeah that is pretty debateable.

You do realize our defense was actually pretty damn good with the exception of about 3 games right?

I don't think they suck. I think they will be very good by the end of their careers (hopefully sooner).

Pros
- offense will have a better game planner and play caller
- all offensive skill guys are back along with most of OL
- LBs are experienced, deep, and talented
- Chavis is one of the best DCs in college football

Cons
- schedule is murder
- absolutely no OL depth other than Williford; just about none of our second OL has played a snap
- DT is a huge question mark other than AJohnson; Ferguson needs to step up; beyond those two our guys are MJohnson and QThomas who frankly have yet to do shite in a game or practice
- we lose two 1st round NFL picks at DE and replace them with Rasco and Hunter; behind them are Maclin and Allen who also have yet to do shite
- we lose Minter in the middle and replace him with Barrow who while not bad is not Minter
- JCollins is in line to start at CB and has looked not ready for SEC play
- Martin and/or Thompson will have to replace maybe the best S in college football
- depth is a concern at multiple positions

Hopefully our young guys can step up and assert themselves. We need Rasco, Hunter, Ferguson, some OL, some DL, some DB, along with some of our incoming freshmen (White, Gilmore, Beckwith) to play immediate key roles.

Very level-headed response.

Well we have an experienced QB in Mett who is better than Lee and Jeff albeit horrible on pocket awareness and deep ball touch(both of those can be fixed over the offseason. We have Dural, Avery P, and hopefully Leslie. All of those guys are 6'2 or higher and run a 4.4 40.We have Hill and Blue at the same time and Jeryl Brazil who has 4.3 speed. How could you not like that?

This Quaterback:
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
156 245 1646 63.7 6.72 75 12 5 36 132.2

Just for Reference, JJ's first full year:
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
182 296 61.5 2166 7.3 17 58 7 137.2

It's basically the damn same man.

It's hard to say. LSU could be better next year. SEC office screwed them on the schedule, but what else is new.

I think Bama will take a little bit of a step back this year with the loss of the majority of that o-line. The SEC office helped them by giving them a cake walk of a schedule, but what else is new.

I will agree with this.

On defense our secondary should be better and I think our lbers overall will be better even with the loss of minter.

ALOT of young players got valueable playing time. BUT This D has been spooked since Bama and THE DRIVE.

How exactly are we going to be worse? I think we will be better. The schedule will be hard, but when does LSU have an easy schedule? We get aTm and Florida at home for gods sake.

This years team has a chance to be great. BUT I see them losing a game they should win.

IF CAM can come in and SELL some playaction......... LSU will be KILLER on offense... That's a BIG IF though.
